On a sunny Friday night at Kirktonholme Park in East Kilbride, the 2026 Premier League Cup Final delivered everything great about Saturday morning football — drama, passion, comebacks, and a dramatic late winner.

In front of a big crowd, Toryglen Thistle in their traditional red and black kit defeated Rossvale Huntershill wearing their historical yellow and red in a memorable SPAFA GCFA Morning Premier League Cup final.


Fast Start for Toryglen Thistle

Toryglen came flying out of the blocks and immediately put Rossvale under pressure.

  • An early chance was brilliantly saved by the Rossvale goalkeeper
  • A dangerous corner then led to a header just over the bar

Their pressure soon told when a teasing corner caused chaos in the box, and a Rossvale Huntershill defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net as he tried to clear to saftey. 1-0 Toryglen Thistle

Toryglen quickly doubled their lead when Jay Nelson met a dangerous cross and powered home a fine finish. 2-0 Toryglen Thistle

At that stage, Toryglen looked in complete control and their domestic rivals were struggling to stay in this final.


Rossvale Huntershill Battle Back

Rossvale refused to give in and some steady pressure ended with a deflected effort finding the net to pull one back and swing the momentum. 2-1 !!!!!

The goal gave Rossvale Huntershill belief that they could get themselves back into the match.

The final effort of the half fell for Toryglen Thistle as they were still looking dangerous — unfortunately MacGregor thought he was Maradona and tried to score with a diving hand after another great delivery into the box.

Second Half: End-to-End Drama

Toryglen nearly restored their two-goal cushion early in the second half when they struck the post after a well worked move.

Rossvale Huntershill responded strongly, but Toryglen goalkeeper Danny Graham produced an excellent save from close range to keep his side ahead.

A controversial moment followed when Toryglen appealed for a handball and a penalty, after a shot looked like it bounce off a Rossvale hand but the referee waved play on and to be honest it looked like the right call.

Rossvale Huntershill then completed their comeback with a composed one-on-one finish. 2-2 !!! what a game this has been.

Joe Dickson’s Late Winner

As extra time loomed, the defining moment arrived as Toryglen pushed for the winner as they did not want to rely on the lottery of Penalties after a hard 90 minutes.

A great ball into the box saw a late Rossvale challenge upend a Toryglen Thistle player and the referee Robert Strachan immediately pointed to the spot. Up stepped Joe Dickson.
