The Brothers in Arms Cup Final will be the first confirmed final of the GDSFC run-in, with Castlemilk FA set to face Steins Thistle Sunday under the lights at Nethercraigs on Friday 15th May.

As part of Footy Focus’ finals build-up coverage, Castlemilk FA founder and manager Ryan McMillan reflected on the club’s route to the final and what the occasion means for the group.

Ryan felt the Clydebank round was probably the moment belief around the cup run really started to grow.

“it was probably the round we beat Clydebank because in league fixtures this season they’ve took 4 points from the 2 games.”

Despite the pressure that naturally comes with knockout football, Ryan says he never really felt the side were going out.

“No never felt during any game we wouldn’t progress to next round.”

When asked about standout players during the run, Ryan preferred to focus on the squad as a whole rather than individuals.

“Every player in our squad has contributed during the cup run and to be honest throughout the season.”

Ryan also made it clear that Castlemilk’s focus stays on their own standards rather than spending too much time worrying about opponents.

“I’m a manager that doesn’t really care about the opposition I know what quality I’ve got in our squad and on any given day we can give anyone a hard game so haven’t watched or asked anyone else about our opponents.”

The final itself carries added meaning for the club, especially with several players having progressed through the setup from youth football into the amateur game together.

“This is massive for our club as I’ve had some players from primary school football through boys club and into amateur football straight from under 18s and it’s our fist cup final as an amateur team so we’re looking forward to it.”

Before attention fully turns to the final, Castlemilk still have league business to handle away to Garrison Athletic this Friday night.

“we will only start our preparations for the final after what we expect to be a tough game this Friday away to garrison who have just went top of our division.”

Castlemilk FA’s run to the final has been built around confidence in the squad rather than outside noise. Ryan McMillan’s replies consistently came back to trust in the group and the standards already inside the dressing room.

Some finals are about big names. Some are about groups that have grown together over years.

This one sounds more like the second.
