Another massive weekend of grassroots football delivered big moments, match-winning displays, and players stepping up when their clubs needed them most. Narrowing it down was no easy task, but here are this week’s five standout performers — with only one player selected per club.
Kevin McFarlaneRutherglen GlencairnWhen a midfielder bags a hat-trick and dominates the centre of the park, there’s only one place to start. Kev McFarlane produced a sensational all-action display, driving Rutherglen forward while showing composure, energy, and clinical finishing. A MOTM performance with three goals from midfield is impossible to ignore, making him a leading contender for this week’s top honour.
2. Aiden McIlwaine (Lokomotiv) – Hero Between the Sticks
Aiden was nothing short of outstanding for Lokomotiv. The big goalkeeper looked destined for a deserved clean sheet after an imperious display that included a huge penalty save and countless key interventions. Although denied late on, his commanding presence and shot-stopping excellence gave his side the foundation they needed. A true match-winner from the back.
A centre-back scoring the winning goal with an outrageous header is special enough — add in a stroll-at-the-back defensive performance and MOTM honours, and you’ve got one of the best displays of the weekend. Ward was dominant in both boxes, combining leadership, composure, and a decisive attacking contribution.
4. Liam Kelly (Port Glasgow Boys Club) – Constant Danger Up Front
Liam was once again a nightmare for defenders, terrorising the opposition backline with relentless energy, movement, and attacking quality. His performance set the tone for Port Glasgow’s forward play, and his ability to continuously cause problems makes him one of the most dangerous strikers around right now.
5. Ross Martin (Westhill United) – Leading the Line
Ross delivered when it mattered, grabbing an important goal and showing the determination needed to drag his side back into the contest. His growing partnership up top is clearly flourishing, and his overall contribution, movement, and finishing made him Westhill’s standout performer this week.
