Friday night was a big one for Westhill United as a 3–1 win over Third Lanark booked their place in the Jim Harvey Cup final. After also being named Manager of the Week, Connor Moffat reflected on the result, the standards within the squad, and what reaching the final means to him.

Name: Connor Moffat
Team: Westhill United
Match: Westhill United 3–1 Third Lanark (Jim Harvey Cup Semi-Final)

1️⃣ A big week — through to your first final and Manager of the Week. How do you reflect on that?

I am absolutely buzzing, the nerves on Friday were right up there but like I said to the boys having nerves for games at this stage of the season is a privilege they’ve earned.

2️⃣ A 3–1 win over Third Lanark — what did you feel your team got right on the night?

The mentality! I feel like we imposed ourselves well, didn’t let the equaliser knock our confidence. Scored goals at the right time. Total team effort.

3️⃣ From the touchline, was there a key moment or decision that you felt swung the game your way?

To be honest, Kyle’s goal right before half time was an absolute key moment and set us up for the second half. Secondly Jamie’s save at 2-1 was not only a superb save – it came as the game ebbed and flowed so could have changed the game had it went in.

4️⃣ You’re now heading into a Jim Harvey Cup final — how do you keep standards high and focus right?

Great question! Fortunately we are still competing on this front and fighting for promotion in the league so we treat every game as a cup final just now. That’s drove standards up, training attendance up and everyone’s committed.

5️⃣ What does it mean to lead this group into a final?

immense pride, some boys have been with Westhill from the start and others came this season but there’s a attitude and standard I expect and the team has showed it in abundance this year. I can’t ask for anything more than that. Walking out for the final this year will be the proudest moment in my amateur footballing career.
