On a brisk Sunday afternoon at Eastwood Park, Giffnock Soccer Centre 40s delivered another statement performance with an emphatic 6-2 victory over Kilbowie 40s, as debutant Nicky Taylor announced himself in style with a superb two-goal display.
With Duff, Scott, Phillips, Whittaker and Smith all unavailable, GSC were forced into a reshuffle, but any concerns over disruption quickly disappeared as the men in purple produced a ruthless attacking performance from first whistle to last.

MATCH REPORT
Kilbowie threatened first when Healy’s unfortunate slip near halfway presented danger, but Bruff showed tremendous recovery pace to produce a vital saving tackle and keep the scores level.
That early scare sparked GSC into life. Andrew Crosbie, dictating the midfield with composure and vision, began to pull the strings, repeatedly finding space and unlocking the visitors. One clever pass sent Craig “Bon” Bonthron racing through, only for the Kilbowie keeper to deny him.

The breakthrough soon arrived. Crosbie and Bonthron combined brilliantly again to win a corner kick , and from PJ’s inviting delivery, new signing Nicky Taylor rose above everyone to power home a close-range header and mark his debut with a goal worthy of the occasion. 1-0 GSC 40s !!!!!
New Signing Nicky Taylor’s confidence was evident throughout, linking superbly with Tony McKeown as GSC pressed for more with when McKeown shot was well saved.


Against the run of play Kilbowie hit back. A swift counterattack and deep back-post cross caught GSC out, allowing the visitors’ striker to finish expertly off the post for 1-1.
The action remained relentless. PJ and Kev both went close before GSC restored their lead in fine fashion. Healy’s incisive pass found Bonthron, whose intelligent cutback was met perfectly by Crosbie for a clinical first-time finish. 2-1 !!!!!
Striker Willie Stewart was becoming an influential figure in the game as he was making some really clever runs and causing their defenders all sorts of problems.

Kilbowie again responded within minutes, capitalising on a missed header from the man of the moment Bon and their striker picked up the ball before cutting inside and outside before he rifled home to make it 2-2.
GSC refused to be rattled. Crosbie and McKeown’s creativity continued to torment the visitors, and after PJ was brought down in the box, Kev stepped up with confidence to bury the penalty and send GSC into the break 3-2 ahead.
Midfield destroyer Brian Leonard was next to have a shot at goal but his effort finished wide of the post.
The remainder of the half saw the ball bounce and bobble around without anyone taking real control of the game.
HALF TIME – GSC 40s 3 Kilbowie 40s 2
The second half belonged entirely to the home side.
The home side had an early chance to enhance their lead as a nice passing move led to Crosbie firing over the bar much to his own frustration.
James Tavernier I mean Craig Bonthron almost set up another goal when his lung bursting run and clever cut back found Stewart but his shot finished just over the crossbar.

Crosbie seemed to be at the heart of everything and he grabbed his second goal of the game after Kev’s dangerous cross caused chaos in the box and Crosbie was on hand to fire home from close range. 4-2!!!
Attacking midfielder PJ added a moment of pure quality by seizing on a loose ball and curling a superb finish beyond the helpless keeper in the Kilbowie net. 5-2 !!!!!
GSC then decided to introduce McIntyre, Wilson and McGrattan to freshen things up
Kilbowie’s dangerous number eight Preston continued to threaten, but Murray produced a series of outstanding saves to preserve GSC’s growing advantage.


Then came the moment to crown Taylor’s dream debut. Crosbie’s pinpoint delivery found the new man once again, and Taylor applied the finishing touch for his second goal and GSC’s sixth of the afternoon. 6-2 !!!!!
Jim Wilson a second half sub came on and was playing his part picking up several loose balls and making numerous timely tackles.

There was still time for Taylor to nearly complete a hat-trick, his thunderous long-range strike crashing against the crossbar.
while McGrattan and Tommy McIntyre also went close as GSC continued to pour forward until the final whistle.
Credit must go to Bruff and Healy for their second half performance as they put a halt to the Kilbowie front line.

Man Of The Match – Nicky Taylor
Nicky Taylor delivered a debut that will live long in the memory, producing a Man of the Match performance from the first whistle to the last.
