Challenge Cup Quickfire

EKYM come into this semi-final as holders from the previous format, with a largely similar group still involved this season.

On paper, this one sits close — EKYM on 37 points in Division One, Hillwood on 38 in the Championship. Different divisions, but little between them in terms of numbers.

From within the GDSFC, this is one that’s been picked out through the week — Hillwood are understood to be reaching this stage for the first time, up against a side that’s already been there.

Q: Semi-final stage — how’s the squad approaching this one?

The squad’s focused and fully prepared for the challenge ahead. The players have worked hard all season to put themselves in this position, and there’s a lot of confidence and belief within the group. Everyone’s looking forward to the occasion and ready to give everything to reach the final.

Q: Hillwood come from the division above and sit close on points — what are you expecting from the game?

We know it’ll be a difficult game against a strong side. Hillwood compete a division above us, so they’ll bring quality and experience, but the points totals show there’s not much between the teams. Semi-finals are always tight games, so we’re expecting a competitive match and a good test for the squad.

Q: What would reaching the final mean for this group?

It would mean a lot. We won the competition last year under a different team name, and it’s mostly the same group of players again this season. We’ve added more quality to the squad this year as well, so reaching another final would be a big achievement for everyone involved. It would also feel fitting after all the hard work the group has put in over the past two years.

This is one that stands out on the Challenge Cup card.

A side returning at this stage against one stepping into it for the first time, with little between them on paper. It doesn’t take much beyond that — the setup alone suggests a tight semi-final.
