This week brings the return of the midweek fixtures, some people love them and some people hate them but nonetheless we are here in Sunny Port Glasgow for a Championship fixture.
Going into the game Port Glasgow Boys Club knew they simply had to win after Saturday’s minor blip against Woodbank FC at Nethercraigs.
Tonight’s league fixture was the 6th meeting between the clubs this season which is absolutely Incredible.
The clubs had been paired together in the Bunrigh Cup, the Jim Harvey Cup and the Scottish Cup which went to a replay
Port Glasgow had certainly got the upper hand in these previous fixtures winning three, drawing one and losing one.
Going on previous history this was going to be a tough midweek test in Port Glasgow at parklea for Greater Croftpark Rose
This tough test was not made any easier travelling with just 12 players — including 2 goalkeepers — but GCR showed real heart, grit, and determination throughout.
The warm and sunny conditions this evening down the Port were perfect for a game of football.

GCR knew they faced a huge challenge against a strong Port Glasgow Boys Club side going for the league title.
Despite the odds, Greater Croftpark Rose were absolutely resolute in the first half, defending with discipline, shape, and spirit as Port Glasgow searched for a breakthrough.
PGBC definitely have a very distinctive style of football and it certainly works for them and it is so hard to defend against.

With the low sun causing issues and both teams struggling to find rhythm.
Greater Croftpark Rose had a couple of breakaways and a few half chances but nothing that really troubled Coyle in the PGBC goal too much.
At the other end Patterson, McCoo, McKenzie and Smith were doing overtime trying to defend the crosses into the box by their title challenging opponents.
Overall it was a tense and stuffy opening 45 that ended goalless at the break much to the frustration of the forty five strong home crowd .

The second half saw the home side raise the tempo and again pepper the Greater Croftpark goal but Patterson was in inspired form.
Eventually the pressure told around the 60 minute mark a dangerous McLaughlin cross found PGBC fox in the box liam Kelly at the front post to break the deadlock and make it 1-0 !!!!!

Port Glasgow began to take control of the game as GCR began to run out of steam.
The Title challengers then went close on a couple more occasions as their deliveries into the box were absolute quality at times.
The home side got another when McLaughlin’s tremendous delivery soon forced a GCR central defender into an own goal to double the lead. 2-0
Deep into stoppage time, PGBC captain Curran rounded the goalkeeper and tapped home to seal the result.
FT: Port Glasgow Boys Club 3-0 Greater Croftpark Rose
While the scoreline went against them, GCR’s first-half resilience and commitment with such a stretched squad deserved credit.
A massive win for Port Glasgow Boys Club as they move one step closer to promotion and the league title.
