Under the fading evening light, a title-chasing clash delivered drama, quality, and no shortage of goals as Busby AFC powered their way to an emphatic 8–3 victory over Netherton AFC in a match that had everything.

The contest began at a fierce tempo, with both sides showing attacking intent from the outset. Netherton edged the early exchanges, carving out the better chances, but found themselves frustrated by a resolute Busby defence and an inspired goalkeeper.
Midway through the first half, the deadlock was broken. A dangerous corner was whipped into the heart of the box, where Kit Cummings rose highest to thunder home a header and give Busby the lead. 1-0 Busby !!!!

The momentum shifted instantly. Soon after, another pinpoint delivery caused chaos in the area, and Moffat met it with authority to double the advantage. 2-0 !!!!!
Netherton were handed a lifeline following a controversial penalty decision, but Busby’s goalkeeper David Kempton produced a moment of brilliance — saving the initial spot-kick before reacting superbly to deny the rebound and preserve his side’s cushion.

That resilience proved decisive. Moments later, Busby swept forward with a slick passing move, finished clinically by James Dempster to make it 3–0 at the break.

Netherton emerged for the second half with renewed urgency, pressing high and forcing Busby onto the back foot. Their pressure eventually told when a driven ball into the box was inadvertently turned into his own net by Greg McKay, reducing the deficit to 3–1.
Any hopes of a comeback, however, were swiftly extinguished. From the restart, Busby responded in ruthless fashion, with John Dempster restoring the three-goal lead almost immediately.
Netherton continued to battle, and their changes injected fresh energy. A surging run down the flank led to another dangerous cross, which again ended in misfortune for Busby as a defender diverted the ball into his own net, making it 4–2.
But from that point on, it was all Busby.
Displaying clinical finishing and relentless attacking play, they surged forward to add four more goals, overwhelming their opponents and underlining their dominance at the top end of the table.
There was still time for one final flourish. With almost the last kick of the match, Netherton’s right winger produced a moment of individual brilliance, cutting inside and unleashing a stunning strike from 30 yards into the top corner — a goal worthy of any highlight reel.
In the end, though, it was Busby’s night — a commanding performance full of character, quality, and cutting edge.
