Under clear skies at Dalziel Park, Giffnock Soccer Centre 40s delivered a ruthless and exhilarating performance to dismantle Bothwell Vets 40s in a nine-goal masterclass.

Despite a growing injury list and notable absentees, Giffnock produced their most complete display of the season so far, making it four wins from five in emphatic fashion.

Coming into the match without key figures Doherty, Neeson, and Gibson, alongside the absence of previous Man of the Match Derek Ure.

Giffnock might have been forgiven for approaching the fixture with caution. Instead, they exploded into life within minutes.

Kick Off

Right back Chris Bruff surged forward with intent and picked out Tommy McIntyre, who showed composure beyond his years to slot past the keeper and open the scoring. It was a sign of things to come. 1-0 GSC !!!!!

At the back, Captain Iain Duff and John Healy stood firm, providing a solid foundation that allowed Giffnock’s attacking players to flourish.

Giffnock’s third was a sweeping move of real quality. McIntyre held the ball up intelligently before releasing McKeown, who in turn fed the overlapping full back Kev Gallagher. With confidence high, Gallagher calmly chipped the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.

Left back Kevin Gallagher makes it three goals in four appearances for his club this season.

Bothwell threatened briefly when a free kick from the edge of the box flashed narrowly wide, but Giffnock remained firmly in control. Although Bothwell did manage to pull one back through Roberts after a scramble in the box, it proved little more than a consolation. 3-1 !!!

Giffnock responded immediately and emphatically. New signing Geo Smith, already showing promise, headed home at the back post after excellent work from the lively PJ, restoring the three-goal cushion. 4-1 !!!!!

Soon after, a defensive error gifted Tommy McIntyre his second goal of the game, as he rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into an empty net for 5-1.

There was no let-up. Gordy’s perfectly weighted through ball released Smith again, and the debutant made no mistake, finishing confidently to extend the lead to 6-1 before the break.

The second half continued in much the same vein. Giffnock remained relentless, with Brian Leonard dominating midfield, snapping into challenges and driving his team forward with tireless energy.

Smith completed a dream debut hat-trick after racing onto a precise pass from Gallagher, rounding the keeper, and slotting home with ease to make it seven.

Midfielder Tam Whittaker dictated the tempo, ensuring Giffnock maintained control throughout.

Further chances came and went, but the goals kept flowing. A well-worked move involving Gallagher and McGrath ended with Gordy Scott finishing coolly for the eighth.

A ninth goal was on the agenda when a lung-bursting run from Healy set up another simple tap-in for Gordy Phillips who had put in an impressive performance.

Bothwell, to their credit, continued to battle, but they had no answer to Giffnock’s movement, sharp passing, and clinical finishing.

As the final whistle blew, it marked a dominant 9-1 victory—one that underlined Giffnock’s attacking depth, resilience in the face of absentees, and growing momentum this season.
