Toryglen Thistle Football Club, of the GCFA Saturday Morning Section under the SPAFA banner, secured a thunderous 4-1 victory over Burrelton Rovers on Saturday, punching their ticket into the Fourth Round of the prestigious Amateur Scottish Cup.

The rain-soaked afternoon turned into a scoring frenzy for the Glasgow-based side, whose dominant performance left no doubt about their ambition in the competition. Despite an early scare, which saw the Thistle net breached just two minutes in by an efficient BRFC strike, Toryglen quickly regained their composure and control.

The comeback began in earnest in the 37th minute, courtesy of an unfortunate Own Goal (OG) by the Rovers, levelling the scores and settling the Thistle nerves. 1-1 !!!!!!

The momentum carried through to the stroke of half-time when McGillivray netted in the 45th minute, sending Toryglen into the break with a crucial 2-1 lead.

The second half was all Thistle. Just eight minutes after the restart, the referee pointed to the spot, and Kent coolly converted the penalty in the 53rd minute to make it 3-1 !!!!

Four minutes later, Lindsay put the final nail in the coffin, scoring in the 57th minute to seal a commanding 4-1 triumph.

“A dominant victory,” one supporter was overheard saying after the match. “The lads showed great character to bounce back from that early goal. This team means business.”

The victory now sets up an exciting home fixture in the Fourth Round against Shortlees Amateurs.

The match is officially due to be played on Saturday, 6th December. Thistle players and management are already marking their calendars for what promises to be a thrilling cup clash.

The red and black army marches on!
