“While Saturday afternoon leagues dwindle, Saturday mornings are thriving.” #GCFAAlive

The Scottish Amateur Cup is the pinnacle of grassroots football. For GCFA sides, it’s never just about results — it’s about proving Saturday mornings belong on the national stage. Cambuslang Milan’s tie with AS Ardrie carried that spirit, leaving them with lessons learned and genuine excitement for the next round.

Here’s David’s full take on the tie and what it means for the season ahead
What made your team enter the Scottish Anatuer Cup this season?
Scottish Cup is always an experience and special away days that you always remember!
Do your players and coaches find value in the competition, even at this stage?
Its definitely a worthwhile experience Ofcourse it allows for you to come up against teams that you don’t normally play
Given the league levels, Westerlands were seen as favourites — how do you think your side compared?
AS Airdrie were a well organised side who is managed by ex junior manager so that was to be expected they would be tough opponents! We took our chances in the game and seen us get into the hat for the next round.
“Saturday morning football continues to punch above its weight.”
Was there a point in the game when you felt the tie could swing your way or away from you?
Like any game when the tie is in the balance at 1-1 you knew the next goal could tide the way the game would go and we score a screamer to get us 1-2 up then few minutes later capitalise to go 1-3 up 5 mins of the game that put daylight between the teams.

Who has your Man Of The Match ?
Kieran Traynor was everywhere on Saturday the amount of energy and tenacity this lad brings to our game is incredible and to top it off he scores 35 yard effort that thunders by everyone!
What do you hope your team takes from this competition into the rest of the league season?
Big match experience.
Based on your experience so far, do you see the club entering again next season?
Yes we will be entering the Scottish Amateur Cup again next season.
Are you hoping for a a big away day or a home tie in the next round of the competition?
Big Away Day it’s got to be! A wee day out to Aberdeen or somewhere like that would be great
“The national stage is proving what we already knew: Saturday morning football can hold its own.”

Win or lose, GCFA clubs take something from every tie — lessons, belief, and momentum that feeds straight back into league action. Cambuslang Milan’s showing is another reminder: Saturday morning football in the GCFA is alive, ambitious, and unafraid of the national spotlight.
