THE RESULT

Coming up against a side from the division above, Banknock showed no fear from the first whistle, matching their higher-league opponents with intensity, quality, and belief throughout. In what turned into a nine-goal spectacle, the game had everything—end-to-end action, clinical finishing, and moments of real character from the home side.
One of the standout takeaways from the match was Banknock’s attacking depth. With five different goalscorers on the scoresheet, it underlined just how much quality and versatility exists within the squad. The ability to share goals across the team makes Banknock a constant threat and difficult to defend against.
Despite Lokomotiv Glasgow pushing hard and keeping the contest alive until the final whistle, Banknock held their nerve to secure a memorable victory and book their place in the final.

THE GAFFER
Banknock AFC manager Max Smith was full of pride following his side’s incredible 5–4 victory over Lokomotiv Glasgow in the Jim Harvey Cup semi-final.
“I’m absolutely delighted for the players,” Smith said. “To come up against a team from the division above and score five goals shows the quality and belief we’ve got in that dressing room.”
Smith was particularly pleased with the spread of goalscorers, highlighting the strength in depth within his squad.
“Five different scorers tells you everything about this group. We’re not reliant on one or two players—everyone contributes, and that makes us a dangerous side.”
However, the manager was quick to stress that there is still work to be done, especially defensively after conceding four goals in such an open contest.
“We’ll enjoy this, of course, but we know we need to tighten up. Against better teams, you can’t give away as much as we did.”
Looking ahead, Smith acknowledged the challenge that awaits as Banknock prepare to face Busby AFC, another side from the division above, in the next round.
“It doesn’t get any easier. Busby are a top team at that level, and we’ll need to be at our very best again. But performances like today give us confidence—we’ve shown we can compete.”
“We’ll respect them, but we won’t fear anyone.”
