The Corinthians took on Chryston who are currently 3rd in the SPAFA Saturday Afternoon Premier League in the Bunrigh Cup Quarter Final.
Recently the Corinthians performances have been pretty poor, so today was an opportunity to show AFC Chryston how good the current GCFA Saturday Morning Premier League premier holders can be.

The game started well with both teams showing how good they are in possession and playing keep ball for long spells.

The first opportunities fell to Corinthians but they couldn’t capitalise and take the lead. You could just feel a goal was coming for the home team.
Minutes later an excellent ball was passed through to Ryan Murney who unleashed a brilliant strike, which curled nicely into the top left hand corner, giving the Chryston keeper no chance. 1-0 Corinthians!!!!!!

AFC Chryston seemed a little bit taken aback by conceding the first goal and the struggled to regain their composure.
A second opportunity came for Corinthians when Eddie Ferns drilled a ball to the keeper’s front post, and once again Ryan Murney, was first to connect with it, steering it nicely into the back of the net. 2-0 Corinthians !!!!

Chryston looked a bit rattled as they went 2-0 down before half time and did not really threatened Big Matty, the Corinthian’s keeper who could not have dreamed of an easier half.

The second half was end to end but a strong Corinthians back line stuck together and defended like their lives depended on it.
With about 20 minutes to go AFC Chryston took a risk and pushed more players forward and went all out to get themselves back into this important match.
During these tense moments for Corinthians it was definitely AFC Chryston’s best spell of the game.
Moments later the pressure paid off which resulted in Chryston pulling one back through a headed own goal, from a very dangerous delivery into the Corinthians penalty box. 1-2
AFC Chryston looked the fitter team in the closing 10 mins and flung everything at getting themselves back into this cup tie.
Unfortunately for AFC Chryston the experience in the Corinthians team shone through and this was enough to hold out and see the game through to its conclusion.

Match Day Reporters Final Thoughts ⬇️
A brilliant game to watch. Chryston are very comfortable on the ball with nice weighted short and long passes. But the Corinthians were the better team, even though they are playing in the Saturday morning league.
The Corinthians team are made up of highly experienced players and it was a joy to watch them beat a young, good quality, Saturday afternoon team to put themselves through to the Semi Finals of the Bunrigh Cup.
Footy Focus Final Thoughts
Corinthians went into this with doubts around form but delivered when it mattered, knocking out AFC Chryston and backing up the standard of the Saturday morning game. Even Hugh Dunnit got this one wrong.
Man Of The Match

Striker Ryan Murney was awesome today as he scored the two vital goals that won Corinthians the game.
The Clever striker’s hold up play was simply a joy to watch and the AFC Chryston defenders will be delighted they do not have to face him on a more regular basis.
