Two Conference League sides met in an entertaining Jim Harvey Cup clash on a sunny morning in Glasgow, and it delivered drama, goals, and momentum swings. Despite travelling with a reduced squad after several late call-offs, Banknock produced a dominant first-hour performance that ultimately proved enough to secure a thrilling 5–3 victory over River Nevis and book their place in the quarter-finals.

Match Report

Banknock went into the match fully aware of the threat River Nevis posed, having suffered a heavy defeat against them earlier in the season. With only 14 players available, the odds seemed stacked against them, but the team responded with intensity from the opening whistle.

The early pressure paid off when Banknock struck first in spectacular fashion. A quickly taken free kick found Ben Alum around 30 yards from goal, and he unleashed a powerful strike that rocketed into the back of the net to give Banknock the perfect start.

The momentum stayed firmly with Banknock, and they soon doubled their advantage. A well-weighted through ball released Luke, who kept his composure and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2–0.

The attacking flow continued as slick passing carved open the Nevis defence. The move ended with Kian meeting the ball outside the box and firing a volley that caught the goalkeeper off guard, stretching the lead to 3–0.

Before the break, Luke grabbed his second of the match. A cutback found him inside the box, and he produced a superb finish into the top right-hand corner, capping an excellent first half for Banknock.

Half-time: Banknock 4–0 River Nevis

Banknock wasted little time extending their lead after the restart. Ryan did brilliantly to beat his man and deliver a cross for Jack, who laid the ball back perfectly for Alex. Alex drilled a low shot into the bottom right corner, pushing the score to 5–0 and seemingly putting the game beyond doubt.

With the result looking secure, Banknock made a few substitutions, but River Nevis refused to go quietly. Three late goals from the visitors created a nervy final ten minutes and added late drama to the contest.

Despite the late surge, Banknock’s dominant opening 60 minutes proved decisive, and they held on to seal a 5–3 victory in a highly entertaining cup tie.

Final Thoughts

It was a performance full of attacking quality, resilience, and character from a Banknock side short on numbers but big on determination. Their reward is a place in the Jim Harvey Cup quarter-finals, and with performances like this, they will head into the next round full of confidence. Thanks to everyone who came along to support — see you all in the next round. 🔴⚫⚽
