There’s something special about Saturday morning football. So many of us give up our free time to play, and over the years it becomes a way of life.

Why do we do it? Is it the “friendly” banter that turns into a cup-final atmosphere five minutes after kick-off? Is it the competitiveness that most footballers carry with them? Or is it the bonds that get built after years of sharing changing rooms, pitches, and early Saturday starts?

This past Saturday at the Palace of Arts, Lokomotiv Glasgow (the Lokos) proved that while players might age, the competitive fire—and the club bond—never fades.

In a brilliant testimonial-style clash, the Current Lokos Squad took on the Lokos Legends, a team stacked with the “old crocks” and stalwarts who helped build the club’s reputation in the Glasgow Colleges Football Association.

The Goalscorers:

• The Current Squad: Smith led the charge with a brace (x2), followed by a double from McCambridge (x2). Naysmith, Methven, and Lakin all found the back of the net to round off a dominant seven-goal performance.

The Legends: They didn’t leave empty-handed! James Andersen showed he’s still got the nerves for the big moments by slotting home a penalty (P), while a Woods own goal (OG) added a bit of classic Sunday league comedy to the scoresheet.

Not Just About Football

While the scoreboard showed a clear win for the current crop, the day was really about the “throwbacks.” It was a testimonial to the grit and loyalty that defines Lokomotiv Glasgow.

Seeing the old guard back that paved the way for the current crop on the pitch at the Palace of Arts served as a reminder to the younger players exactly what it means to wear the badge.

All of the boys

The GCFA was built on teams like this—groups of mates who turn into legends over years of Saturday mornings. Whether you were there for the clinical finishing of the youngsters or to see the veterans give it one last go, it was a masterclass in club culture.

Long live the Lokos!
