BUSBY AFC 4 – 4 GREENOCK HSFPs 21s

Busby AFC win 5-4 on penalties after a 4-4 draw in a Cinema Cup tie that never settled across the 90 minutes. Eight goals, a late twist, and spot kicks needed to separate them.
A Mountain to Climb
The afternoon started badly for the home side. Greenock were sharp from the first whistle and went ahead early, a ball over the top finding space down the left before being finished calmly.
Busby responded well. After building pressure, Conor levelled things with a well-worked corner routine — taking a touch on the edge of the box before driving his finish into the top corner.
Greenock regained control before the break. A turnover in midfield led to another opening, worked wide and squared across goal to restore their lead. By half-time, Busby were 3-1 down with work to do.
Tactical Masterclass
The second half brought a response from Busby. A switch in shape gave them more presence in midfield and helped deal better with Greenock’s direct play.
They got back into it when the right winger drew a foul inside the box. The penalty was taken confidently, finished low to the keeper’s right to make it 3-2.
The equaliser followed soon after. A driven ball across goal caused problems, and Moffat — off the bench — got the final touch with a glancing header to level it at 3-3.
“The game was pure chaos for five minutes. It was end-to-end, heart-in-mouth football.”
The Thirty-Yard Screamer
With 10 minutes left, Conor Docherty put Busby ahead again. Receiving the ball on the left, he cut inside and struck from around 30 yards. His effort clipped the underside of the bar and went in to make it 4-3.
Late Drama and Spot-Kick Success
Busby had chances to extend their lead, including a scramble in the box that was eventually cleared. They were caught late on, though, when a pass into the area wasn’t dealt with and Greenock’s No.10 finished low to make it 4-4 in the 92nd minute.
Full time finished level, sending the tie to penalties.
From the spot, Busby converted five of their kicks, with Greenock scoring four. That proved enough to send the home side through to the next round.
