Football is always quick to talk about the next one coming through.

Across the leagues, experience decided games — players who knew when to slow things down, when to step in, and when a single moment was enough.

Eddie Ferns (Corinthians) may be the oldest player in the squad, but nothing about his performance suggested that. He read the game early, cut out danger before it developed, and kept things under control when the tempo threatened to rise. While others tired, Ferns stayed switched on and organised those around him.
John Burnside (Clydeside Athletic) provided the decisive moments. Two goals told the story of a striker who understands space and timing. The standout was a composed chip — no rush, no power, just the right decision at the right moment. Burnside didn’t need pace to make the difference. He relied on experience.

This weekend didn’t belong to the youngest legs.
It belonged to players who’ve seen enough football to know when moments matter — and how to take them
