Saturday Standards Are Back ⭐️

Another Saturday round of GCFA fixtures done — and the nominations tell the story again.

This is the clubs’ view of who stood out: impact moments, responsibility, and the work that decided games.

Hugh Dunnit’s Team of the Week to follow.

Goalkeepers continue to define fine margins on Saturday mornings.

Across the GCFA this week, matches were shaped by moments at 1–0, one-on-ones turned away, and calm handling under pressure.

The goalkeeper nominated below delivered when it mattered most.

GK – James McGrattan (Woodbank FC)

James produced a number of top saves for his team and was very unlucky to be on the losing side.

Defenders set the platform on Saturday mornings.

This week’s nominations were all about organisation, leadership, and doing the simple stuff properly — last-ditch tackles, covering teammates, and staying switched on when games got stretched.

The defenders nominated below gave their teams the base to go and win points.

DEF – Connor Moan (Remo FC) Connor has been outstanding and is on top form at the moment. A real team player and solid defender.
DEF – Calum Hodge (Clydebank Red Star)
Solid performance from Hodge. Good positioning and put his head on everything.
DEF – Mark Smith (Greater Croftpark Rose)
Mark was deployed in an unusual position and you would never have known it. The midfielder slotted into defence like a career veteran, making a number of crucial tackles and interventions.

DEF – Marc Smart (Clydebank Red Star)

Has been a revelation since his move to right-back. Got stuck in and was composed on the ball when required.

DEF – Liam McGlaughlin (Camby FA)
He’s been consistent on his return from injury, getting in on a goal and a couple of assists.
DEF – Richard Henry – Rhu Colts
He’s been consistent on his return from injury, getting in on a goal and a couple of assists.
DEF – Finlay Anderson (Glasgow Island)
An absolute bear at the centre of defence. Marshalled from the back superbly.
DEF – Paul Johnston (Lokomotiv)
The centre-back got a rare goal for the Lokos to get things going in the second half, nodding in a cross. Strong defensive display to build on.

DEF – Gary Weir (Southside United)

The big defender has been outstanding this season. An assist last week and a goal this week — having a brilliant campaign.

DEF – Jake Wilson (Glasgow Island)
Had the most difficult job on the park against the Rossvale winger who caused problems last time out. Stuck to the task magnificently.
DEF – Keiran Ward (Netherton AFC)
Kieran was man of the match and also the goalscorer. His strong centre-back clearance helped save a point in the dying minutes.

DEF – Nathan Mallon (Camby FA)

Nathan was an absolute rock and leader at the back on Saturday against Queens Park SFC. When Nathan performs like that then he makes us a hard team to play against.

Josh Gallacher (Nethercraigs)
The right-back had a tough task keeping PSP’s wide men quiet but did it expertly.

DEF – Tommy Rough (Nethercraigs)

Tommy came on for the injured Ronnie McDonald 25 minutes in and scored two headers — one in the dying seconds to snatch a point.

DEF – Joe Scullion (RHU Colts)

Joe partnered Richie in the centre of defence and produced a solid performance alongside his defensive partner.

Midfielders set the rhythm on Saturday mornings.

Across the GCFA this week, games were controlled through pressure, discipline, and decision-making — winning second balls, slowing it down when needed, and driving teams forward at the right moments.

The midfielders nominated below shaped matches where it mattered most.

MID – Ryan Mimnaugh (Netherton AFC)

Produced a combative performance throughout and never stopped running for the full 90 minutes.

MID – Robbie Whyte (Glasgow Island)
First start in five months and was outstanding. Broke up attacks, tenacious throughout, and calm on the ball.
MID – Lewis MacVicar (Clydebank Red Star) – Finding the level of fitness that allows him to be a real difference-maker. Outstanding.
MID – Paul Cavana (RHU Colts)
Non-stop display from the powerhouse in midfield. Doubt there was a blade of grass he didn’t cover.

MID – Sean Paul Spiers (River Nevis)

A top performance from the midfield maestro gave River Nevis a platform to go on and win the game.

MID – Conner Wilson (Greater Croftpark Rose) Superb all game. The classy midfielder was involved in everything good GCR did and popped up with a bullet header late on.
MID – Jojo Lang (Rutherglen Glencairn AFC)
Another strong engine-room performance, biting into tackles and keeping it simple to keep things ticking over.
MID – James Traynor (Clydebank Red Star) – Trademark performance. Quick feet, composure, quality. A key figure wherever he plays — could probably put him in goals and he’d still be in the MOTM conversation.
MID – Kev McFarlane (Rutherglen Glencairn AFC) Captain fantastic back amongst the goals after missing a couple of weeks through injury. Good to have him back.

MID – Kevin Creamer (River Nevis)

Kevin tormented the opposition with his direct running and scored two goals for his reward.

MID – Colin Fraser – Southside United
Excellent performance from the midfield maestro, at the heart of everything good they did.
MID – Peter Collins – Westhill United
Strolled it in midfield with a professional and disciplined performance regardless of the scoreline. Broke up play and moved the ball well. Deserved MOTM.
Gary McAloon (Greater Croftpark Rose)
Excellent throughout and stood up to be counted when he scored a superb goal to spark the fightback.

MID – Sean McBride (Westhill United)

Got Westhill off the mark with a screamer from 25–30 yards. Kept standards high, added a second with a calm finish, and earned a well-deserved rest early in the second half.

MID – Matt Friar (Lokomotiv)
Two goals including a rare header. Covered midfield and the front line for 90 minutes, causing constant problems.

MID – Liam Reid (Clydeside Athletic)

Liam McGlaughlin (Camby FA)
Flying again this season with goals and assists. Hopefully keeps it going.
