Saturday Standards Are Back ⭐️

Saturday mornings across the GCFA continue to set the bar.
Week after week, the level, organisation, and commitment on show underline just how strong the association is right now — not in theory, but in what’s happening on pitches across the city.

This week’s Squad of the Week nominations reflect that standard. These aren’t highlight-reel picks or box-score grabs. They’re based on impact, responsibility, and moments that mattered — saves at 1–0, leadership in the back line, midfield control, and goals that shifted games.

Every nomination below comes directly from clubs. That insight is what keeps this feature honest, relevant, and rooted in real Saturday football.

Goalkeepers continue to define fine margins on Saturday mornings.
Across the GCFA this week, matches were shaped by moments at 1–0, one-on-ones turned away, and calm distribution under pressure — the kind of work that rarely grabs headlines but decides outcomes.

The goalkeepers nominated below delivered when it mattered most.

Max Noble — Banknock FC

Important saves at 1–0 to keep the score in Banknock’s favour and record his first clean sheet of the season.

Ross Gallacher — Clydebank Red Star

Outstanding performance. Pulled off a save that will take some topping at this level and earned a deserved clean sheet.

Owen Coyle — Port Glasgow BC

Massive save at 1–0 before Port went up the park to make it 2–0 and effectively seal the game.

Ben Greenaway — Rutherglen Glencairn AFC

Commanding display. A couple of strong saves and excellent distribution throughout.

Defenders set the platform on Saturday mornings.

Across the GCFA this week, performances at the back were defined by organisation, leadership, and composure — from experienced captains returning to steady things, to full-backs and centre-halves stepping into unfamiliar roles and delivering.

From Ronald McDonald’s return for Nethercraigs and Jamie Donaghy’s consistency for Clydebank Red Star, to assured displays from Ryan Whiteside, Muir Kirkwood, and Marty McIntyre, these were performances built on responsibility and reliability.

The defenders nominated below delivered the kind of work that allows teams to function properly.

Ryan Whiteside — Third Lanark AFC

Ronald McDonald — Nethercraigs
