Clydebank Red Star will line up differently in midfield this season as the club bids farewell to Michael McGoldrick. Known to teammates and supporters as “Mick”, he’s heading away from Scottish football as he and his partner begin a period of travelling, with plans to settle in Australia further down the line.
A Year of Dominance

Since joining the club at the start of last season, Mick hasn’t just been a regular starter—he’s been an essential pillar of the team. In just over a year, he racked up an impressive 50 appearances, demonstrating a level of consistency and fitness that earned him the captain’s armband on several occasions.
His impact was officially recognized during last season’s awards ceremony, where he pulled off a clean sweep of the club’s top honors:
• Player of the Year
• Players’ Player of the Year
More Than Just a Player
While his stats speak for themselves, the tribute from the club makes it clear that Mick’s personality was just as vital as his playmaking. Described as a “cracking player but an even better guy to have around the place,” it’s evident that his leadership and character will be missed in the dressing room just as much as his vision on the field.

Red Stars Best Wishes
Good Luck, Mick!
The club concluded their announcement with a hopeful note, wishing him the best on his travels and expressing a desire to see him back in a Red Star strip one day in the future. 🤝🔴⚫
For now, we wish Mick and his partner a safe journey and an incredible new chapter in Australia.

Footy Focus thoughts
We would like to wish Michael all the best on his adventures and we hope to see him back in the GCFA when he has finishes traveling the world.
