Back to Sundays ⭐ marks the moment the GDSFC pauses, resets, and looks ahead.
Before attention turns fully back to fixtures and matchdays, this mid-season recap series records where the GDSFC stands right now.
As a founding member, Pollokshields manager, and committee leader, Nim has watched this season unfold from every angle — the teams that have surprised, the familiar names still delivering, the defensive standards being set, and the wider shape of the league as it reaches the halfway point.
This is the first of a Back to Sundays ⭐ series of features.

Which team has surprised you most so far this season — and why?
🫧 There’s a few to call out maybe for different reasons ;
Exceeded: Go with Third Lanark Sunday in Division One, promoted this season
And have had an excellent start to season. As approach half way in season currently rip of league well done to Brian and the lads 👏👏
Not kicked on yet : Castlemilk Community, I know difficult to continually be top but have had a slow start to season but I’m sure a lot more to come from them in second half season
Surprise: not a surprise as new to league coming from GCCL, a lot of their teams have done brilliantly so far in GDSFC but I’m gonna say Vale AFC, initial thoughts were maybe be bottom half of division three but flying at top of it and doing lots of great things on and off the park 👏

Looking at the league leaders across the divisions, which position feels the most competitive right now?
🫧 not to sit on fence but I think all leagues are competitive still at this stage and no clearer runaway leaders. If was to pick one I think Division One is going to very interesting in second half season

The top goalscorer lists are starting to settle — how many of the names near the top are familiar from previous GDSFC seasons?
🫧 There is lots of familiar names at the top of the charts, clearly showing how clinical and important they are for their teams. But also some new names and particularly across Division Two and Three with lots of new teams amongst them. But one that defo sticks out is John Dempster at Stonelaw – heard good things about him and to see start to season on 30+ goals already, be key for Stonelaw ambitions for 2026, good on him, lad is on fire 🔥

From an organiser’s point of view, which division feels the most unpredictable heading into the second half of the season?
🫧 All divisions have it all to play for and looking like a very interesting second half to the season. And. Think they will all go to the wire. Which makes it a brilliant end of season for league committee, maybe not what teams want but definitely good for those following league as think all have potential to go to last week or two
Again shows the quality within league!!
Clean sheets are often shared credit — are there any defensive units (not just keepers) that have quietly impressed you so far?
🫧 This season we’ve introduced the Sean Jones Golden Glove award in memory of Sean who we sadly lost in 2025
Although aimed towards goalkeeper but I’m sure they’ll wouldn’t take all the credit and say clean sheets are a team performance so on that basis
Kelburne in Championship (promoted this season) only conceding 11 goals in a right competitive division (Yoker only one goal more)
Few other teams across the divisions to mention Todholm & Glasgow North, Motherwell Villa and Castlemilk FA

If you had to sum up the first half of this GDSFC season in one sentence, what would it be?
🫧 Competitive, unpredictable, and continually raising the bar across GDSFC. setting the standard we want to keep pushing forward.
Also be naive of me not to call out the league for the amazing work we do towards charity within our community, at end of 2025 we had donated over £9000 to charities who all do amazing work in amongst our communities which is amazing and makes me continually proud to be part of GDSFC ❤️
