Season So Far — GCFA | August Recap

This season moves quickly. Results roll on, teams change week to week, and good performances can get buried once the next round comes along.
The mid-season break is a chance to pause and look back — not to re-write history, but to re-surface it. Team of the Week has always been about standards rather than moments, and early selections often tell you a lot about who was setting the pace from the start.
This August recap goes back to one of those early calls — a snapshot of the players and performances that stood out when the 25/26 season was just getting going.
Each week, performances across the GCFA catch our eye — but only a select few make it into the Team of the Week. Built from record nominations by supportive clubs, this line-up shows the talent, graft, and moments of brilliance that shaped the weekend’s action

GOALKEEPER
GK – Finlay Adger – ROSSVALE HUNTERSHILL

Finlay was excellent on Saturday against Kings Park United. The shot stopper saved a penalty kick and then came up trumps with a a big save later in the match.
Big things are expected from Finlay this season and with his early season form he looks to be living up to these high expectations.
DEFENDERS
DEF – Darren Stevenson – PORT GLASGOW BC

Darren produced a MOTM performance on a day when the the veteran defender was really needed. Stepping up after his boy got the award last week, showing him who’s the daddy.
Darren leads the team by example and was absolutely superb on Saturday.
DEF – Liam Coyle – CAMBY MILAN

Liam was Solid defensive performance from Coyle who organised his back line well and was also key to the tempo of the game and getting play started from the back! Again another with an incredible range of passing!
Liam isn’t afraid of a challenge and makes excellent use of his size and physical presence.
DEF – Angelo Da Silva – NETHERCRAIGS

Angelo had a great first half at wing back then slotted back to the unfamiliar position of left centre back and hardly put a foot wrong also slotted home his penalty cool as you like. Unlucky to be on the losing side.
The consistency of his performances has been tremendous so far and Angelo looks like a very shrewd signing for Nethercraigs,
MIDFIELDERS
MID – Ryan Gibson – CLYDEBANK SMFC

(New) Gibby came back into the midfield and made a significant contribution. Breaking up attacks but also chipping in with a few assists
Gibson was outstanding at the heart of the Clydebank Midfield.
MID – Mitchell Clocherty – REMO FC

Skipper Mitchell has been outstanding since the start of the season, pulling the strings in midfield and playing a key role in our success
The box to box midfielder was just a colossus for his team today.
MID – Aiden Munro – CLYDESIDE ATHLETIC

Aiden is starting to get up to speed now and capped of a great midfield performance with two goals.
Munro’s performance on the day was enough to secure him a place in the Team Of The Week.
MID – Isaac Frain – BANKNOCK

Isaac Picked up one goal and two assists and generally controlled the game with a number of penetrating passing and ball recoveries.
Isaac has been outstanding for the club in these early stages of the season.
STRIKERS
STR – Steven McCabe – NETHERTON

Steven was superb throughout the game, The attacking player topped off his performance with three goals.
McCabe’s performance was top drawer and that was enough for us to include him in the Glasgow Colleges Football Association Team Of The Week.
STR – Leroy Smith – RUTHERGLEN GLENCAIRN

The wee fella was back to his best on Saturday terrorising pleans backline all game and scoring 3 good goals.
The Prolific striker scored a great hat trick that will surely give him the confidence to kick on and be a real big game player for his club this season.
STR – Ethan Furze – BISHOPTON FC

Ethan was constant threat all day, his willingness to run in behind and link up play was really good, four goals and four assists tells its own story.
Furze is a quality player and even after year or so away the Prolific striker has come back to the league to continue to bang in goals for fun
