Banknock AFC ripped up Hugh’s predictions and wrote the truth themselves. Three goals, three points — and one pundit firmly put back in his box. But at least he’s never afraid to say what he thinks. Well played, Banknock.

Banknock went into Saturday with the Footy Focus preview ringing in their ears. I’d called it a last stand. Said the form wasn’t shifting. Said Cathcart would edge it. They read it. They didn’t like it. And then they did something about it.

I’ll be honest: I didn’t see this coming.

The Match Turns

The game started tight, but Banknock were the ones who stepped forward first. Around the 25-minute mark, Blair’s pass cut Cathcart open. Ryan got on the end of the square ball and finished it. Simple. Sharp. 1–0.

They kept going. Just before the break, Jack reacted first to a spilled shot. That’s instinct. 2–0.

The third was clean. Srithik clipped a ball into Luke, and he headed it in. 3–0. Cathcart pulled one back late, but it didn’t change the story.

The Correction

Two wins on the bounce now, including their cup result. The numbers are turning, and they’ve earned the right to say so.

And yes, they said it. Loudly.

Player Thoughts 💭

A player looked straight at me in the dressing room afterwards — shirt off, grin on — and fired this one over:

“You want to write us off? Go for it. Just be prepared to print a correction the size of a billboard next time.”

FAIR ENOUGH

Correction printed. Banknock are rising. And I’ll think twice before I write them off so easily again.

No buzzwords, no shortcuts — just lads doing it right. That’s Scottish amateur football as Hugh sees it.
