A Christmas Cracker from earlier this month, recognising long-term reliability and standards set from the back at Corinthians FC.

It’s early December, and we’re opening the first few of our Christmas Crackers — a daily spotlight on players who’ve made a real mark across our leagues. No gimmicks, just recognition for the ones who set standards.

Today it’s Corinthians defender Andrew Toner.

He’s been with the club since they were formed, and his influence has only grown season by season. A steady voice, a reliable presence, and someone his teammates look to when things get tight.

Toner.
Around the squad he’s known simply as Toner, though plenty call him Tig — a nickname borrowed from his golf game rather than his tackling. Anyone who’s played a round with him will know why.

On the pitch he’s the kind of left-back every team needs. Sound positionally, good timing, and always switched on. He reads danger well and uses the ball the right way, helping Corinthians settle into games or move forward with a bit of calm.

Those small details have made him one of the constants in the side. No drama, no nonsense — just solid work down the left.

Away from football, Toner swaps boots for golf clubs and spreadsheets. When he’s not on a course, he’s advising people about their pensions, bringing the same measured approach to the day job as he does on a Sunday morning.

This Christmas, let’s raise a glass to Tig—the classy defender, the original Corinthian, and the financial guru!

If you’re talking GCFA full backs who know how to get forward and create havoc for the opposition whilst defending his own goal then Toner is your man.
