You can’t write a script this good.

When Queen’s Park SFC suffered an injury crisis this weekend, manager (or perhaps, the rest of the management team) were forced to look down the bench, past the reserves, and all the way to the 17-year club veteran who usually stands beside them: Assistant Manager David Blair.

Blair, a man who has dedicated nearly two decades of his life to Queen’s Park, trading tackles for tactics, was suddenly thrown back into the fray. Many expected a brief, perhaps purely symbolic appearance. Instead, what we saw was a beautiful reminder that true footballing quality never really leaves you.

The Moment of Magic

The team

For the better part of his time on the pitch, Blair’s composure and game intelligence were immediately apparent. He wasn’t just filling a hole; he was directing traffic, holding the line, and showcasing the kind of vision that you can only gain from thousands of hours on the grass.

But the real, chest-thumping, ‘Did you see that?’ moment came with our third goal.

Deep into the crucial stages of the game, with the points still hanging in the balance, Blair took possession. Instead of opting for the safe pass, he rolled back the years, threading a perfectly weighted assist that sliced the opposition defence wide open. The resulting goal didn’t just pad the scoreline—it killed the contest stone dead. It was the moment that clinched the victory.

A Queen’s Park Legend

The sight of David Blair celebrating a game-winning contribution, having stepped off the bench in an emergency, was genuinely heartwarming. It wasn’t just a former player helping out; it was a club man, a veteran, and now, once again, a match-winner.

It serves as a fantastic lesson for every player in the squad: Look to the man beside the manager. He might not be leading the drills anymore, but his class is permanent, and sometimes, the best tactics are still executed with the oldest pair of boots.

What a shift, David. Absolute Queen’s Park legend. 👏
