Saturday saw the first ever ADG derby between Greater Croftpark Rose and Lokomotiv Glasgow

ADG are the kit supplier who produced the kits that both clubs wore on this bitterly cold match day.

Of course this is not a real derby match, It is s game between two clubs who have got their kits supplied by ADG teamwear the brain child of David Boyd.

MATCH REPORT

This was a championship encounter which saw Lokomotiv go into this game as favourites due to their higher league position.

Both clubs came into the game on the back of losses as GCR fell to Busby AFC 6-2 in the league and Lokomotiv lost out 4-2 to St Mungo’s in the West Of Scotland Cup

The game was played at the frosty Firhill Complex with the man in the middle being the experienced whistler Gerry Reid

GCR started the game well and put some early pressure on Lokomotiv without really testing their goalkeeper.

Lokos almost took the lead when some nice play led to Millsopp hitting the crossbar with a powerful effort from distance.

Rose took the lead when a ball to the back post found Ross Campbell in space at the back post, his first time shot looked to be heading in off the post but was deflected home by the on rushing Lokos defender

Benghellabe was causing Lokomotiv some problems and his mazy run was brought to an end by the young defender. The away side protested but the penalty stood.

Benghellabe took the pens but it was well saves by McIlwaine in the lokos goal

Talat then had a chance to double the lead when he outpaced the defender but his shot was saved again by the inspired number one in the lokomotiv goal.

Midfielder Scott Fleming was becoming an influence on the game and his run in behind was picked out by Ben Mitchell, Fleming then had his shot saved by the keeper and when he looked like scoring the rebound loko’s defender Ritchie made an unbelievable saving tackle

Talat had the final chance of the half as he was played in on goal by McCoo, the attacker raced in on goal but again McIlwaine made a sensational stop to keep his side in the game

GCR doubled their lead when a set piece delivery into the box sound McBrearty who nodded the ball into the path of Kennedy and the defender glanced the ball into the back of the net.

Lokos captain Paul McCambridge continued to try and inspire his team throughput the game and he certainly done his best to drag his team back into the match.

Tweddle on the GCR left was having a fine game and his defending was making life very difficult for the right hand side of Lokomotiv

Benghellabe then had another chance for GCR as he ran through on goal but again the attacker fired his shot just wide of the post.

Lokomotiv were not out the game as the did put serious pressure on the GCR defence but McBrearty made a number of cruical interceptions.

GCR were given a blow when Mitchell went off with an ankle injury but Banda came on and never put a foot wrong.

Lokos striker Irwin had a half chance to half the deficit but his striker from the edge of the box finished just over the crossbar.

GCR captain McCoo then had a chance of his own when him and McMillan linked up well but the leaders shot finished just over the crossbar.

GCR’s lack of substitutes on the day was beginning to become a hinderance as they began to sit in and lokos again put some serious pressure on the GCR goal.

GCR substitute Goalkeeper cone striker Mick Davies came on and won a free kick after some nice footwork. Talat took the free kick and it finished well wide of the target.

The defensive unit of GCR stayed strong and saw out the match with any other major incidents.

Shaun McBrearty

Greater Croftpark Rose defender Shaun McBrearty was todays top man, The defender made a number of crucial interceptions and put his body on the line when it really mattered.

The classy defender and club captain Mcoo really led by example and their leadership really helped the team to an important victory over a really good side.

FINAL TNOUGHTS

This was a really good watch, Greater Croftpark Rose did deserve to win the match but Lokomotiv never made things easy for them. This game was very competitive right until the end and this was another example of how string the division is.
