In a truly classic cup encounter at Broadwood Stadium today, the home of Cumbernauld Colts, Gartcosh United (‘The Cosh’) survived a scare and a dramatic six-goal thriller against a determined Toryglen Thistle side to progress to the next round of the West Cup.

🤯 See-Saw Spectacle Ends in Spot-Kick Heartbreak

This was a tie that had everything: goals, late drama, and the crushing pressure of a penalty shootout.

Toryglen Thistle certainly played their part in the spectacle, taking the lead twice in the game. Their goals came from Carbin (20′), Macgregor (65′), and a dramatic 90th-minute strike from D. Rowan to ensure the match was locked at 3-3 at the final whistle.

However, Gartcosh United showed great spirit to fight back, thanks to a second-half resurgence. Their goals came from J. Fagan, D. Kerr, and K. McVey, those goals ensured the parity that took the contest to penalties.

💔 Thistle’s Penalty Agony.
For Toryglen Thistle, the result will feel like a missed opportunity. Their club spokesman noted that it was “a tough one to take leading twice in the game and then to be undone by missing 3 pens in the shootout.” That late 90th-minute equaliser, which sent the travelling support wild, unfortunately, led to disappointment from the spot.
Ultimately, it was Gartcosh United who kept their cool under pressure, slotting four penalties past the Toryglen keeper to secure their ticket to the next round.

👏 Next Up

Gartcosh United will now look forward to the draw for the next round, hoping to continue their cup journey. The Cosh extended their best wishes to Toryglen Thistle for the rest of their season following this unforgettable encounter.
