Hello and a very warm welcome! Today, we’re diving straight into the heart of one of our newest clubs, Banknock FC, who are battling it out fiercely in their inaugural season.
If you’ve been following the results, you’ll know Banknock has been knocking agonisingly close to that first victory, none more so than this past weekend’s incredible 6-5 thriller against Cambuslang FA. It was a goal-fest that ultimately ended in heartbreak, but it showcased the fighting spirit of this determined squad.
We want to get to know the players who are putting in the effort every week, and today, we’re putting one of their own under the spotlight.
Joining us for a quick-fire round of questions is the man who wears the Banknock badge with pride, Ryan Fox!

Ryan, welcome. Are you ready for the heat of the ‘Winter Edition’ challenge? Let’s go!

Commiserations on the defeat — what was the first thing that went through your head after the final whistle after a classic tie like that?
It was heartbreaking to say the least mate, 5-3 up with 5 minutes to go but somehow losing the game is never nice. At the time emotions were high but after having time to reflect it shows we can compete against the top teams in the league.
What was the game plan going in, and how well do you think the lads stuck to it?
Our game plan is the same as every week. Stick to the principles. We try to play football and score goals the right way. Although this time of year it’s hard on some of the surfaces we play on😂

You’ve seen this group grow week after week — A big win must surly be round ghe corner, How do you keep the boys motivated?
Exactly what keeps the boys motivated, we all know there’s a big win round the corner and if we keep to the principals and play the way we are the wins will start rolling in.
Amateur football throws up all sorts of challenges — what does this result say about your side’s mentality right now?
The teams mentality is hot and cold, we have great numbers at training each week after which seems to be heartbreaking results every weekend as we always seem to narrowly lose. We have to get out our head that games are won before the final whistle and we should be okay.

What was your message to the players back in the dressing room after such a close game like that ?
We praised the boys for there effort and told them we have to stay focused when we are winning games as this cannot keep happening us slipping up at the final hurdle
Scottish winter survival — same gear every week or layers for days?
Personally shorts and T-shirt no matter the weather saying that some boys have brought out the under armour… shocking.
Worst weather to coach in?
Definitely cold and rainy no other answer
Half-time mood — calm talk or flying bottle?
Calm talk
One line or cliché you always catch yourself saying?
“Move the ball” 😂

If your team had a Netflix series, what would it be called?
Final hurdle… because we can never get over it
What’s the most “Scottish amateur football” thing that’s ever happened to you?
Turning up to training and forgot the footballs😂
