Going into today’s clash with Clydebank SMFC, Glasgow Island had never won at Holm Park. Indeed, they suffered defeat home and away against today’s opponents last season, and matches against them are rarely, if ever, enjoyable.

The islanders could have taken an early lead with two good chances from close range but the opener would have to wait. The Clydebank striker, who would be some player if his feet could move as quickly as his mouth, was yellow carded for a cowardly challenge on Jack, catching him well after the ball had gone. This triggered a series of bookings for both teams, mostly soft in my opinion, one of which could have been hugely consequential.
Having had a shot saved on the half hour, Archie made no mistake on 40 minutes, slamming home an inviting cross from Danny after great work by new signing Cammy.

Two minutes later GI doubled their lead, Archie doing well to keep the ball in play and Crawford sweeping home with aplomb.
Into the second half and Right Said Fred, the Clydebank central midfield duo, became more influential without creating any clear chances, though Jack made one top safe from a Clydebank free kick.
The islanders almost extended their lead after a brilliant slaloming run from Robin, but on the hour Finlay, booked earlier after what looked a clean challenge, saw a second yellow for kicking the ball away, reducing the islanders to ten men.

Ten men was all they needed, defending resolutely and continuing to cause Clydebank problems.
Crawford had a shot cleared off the line after a fine move down the right wing. Archie clipped home a third goal only for the ref to have ignored the advantage and blown for an earlier foul on Cammy.

Shortly after their manager was booked for dissent, Clydebank did strike in stoppage time, a tidy header from their captain into the bottom corner, but this was just a consolation goal as GI finally broke their Holm Park hoodoo.
Final score: Clydebank SMFC 1-2 Glasgow Island
