It wasn’t just a win — it was a statement. Pollokshields United’s 7–3 Scottish Cup victory over A&CAFA side Caldervale had everything: a shaky start, a reaction full of bite, and a second half that showed why the GDSFC outfit are one of the most dangerous attacking teams around.

Vice-captain Declan McCafferty spoke after the final whistle about the team’s mindset and turning points in a fiery Scottish Cup tie.”

That was some statement win — how would you sum up the performance from the lads today?

Started off strong almost grabbing goal in the first minute of the game but against the run of play they took an early lead. The boys didn’t let it bother them as was early and we knew we had the quality to come out on top and could see that in our determination to get an equaliser shortly after, followed closely by a great goal to put us 2-1 up. The first half we dominated the possession but the final ball was lacking to add to the lead and got caught out on the break again, against the run of play.
Second half thought we started quite slowly, almost dropping our levels a bit and when we went 3-2 down from a penalty, that gave us that boost we needed to get our act together. Overall you could see everyone’s determination to fight for every ball and ultimately our ability and fitness levels were too much for the opposition who had put up a good fight for the best part of an hour.

Was there a moment, goal, or passage of play where you felt the tie really swung your way?

Probably when they made a defensive error which Hastie capitalised on to tap the ball home into the open net. You could see from there on out it was going to be our game

What does that result say about where Pollokshields United are as a team right now, and what’s next in the Cup?

Definitely shows our determination as a team to grind out results even when we do make things more difficult for ourselves at times. Got a great attack so as long as we start to work on defending as a unit to minimise any poor goals conceded, I feel we are in a good place moving into the next round
