SQUAD OF THE WEEK – SAT 18Th October 2025
Four seasons in and the Squad of the Week has grown arms, legs, and opinions.
That’s where Hugh Dunnit steps in.
He doesn’t do polite applause — he picks the lads who made things happen: effort, impact, and a touch of grit. No heatmaps. No faff. Just standards.

🧤 Goalkeeper
Andrew Patterson – Greater Croftpark Rose

Pulled off big saves when it mattered most. Old-school keeper, all reactions and heart. Hugh’s type all day.

RB – Derek Elder – Rutherglen Glencairn AFC
Turns up, gets it done, nae drama. Been steady for weeks and capped it with a MOTM display.
CB – Aaron McFadyen – Camby Milan
Battled against long balls all day, won everything in the air, then scored the winner. “That’s how you silence route one.”
CB – Ciaran McMahon – Remo FC
A proper centre-half — aggressive, dominant, and doesn’t overthink it. “Takes nothing for granted.”
LB – Marc McKay – Bishopton FC
Worked his flank up and down, grabbed an assist, and filled in midfield late on. The kind of shift that earns respect, not headlines.

RM – Andy Lindsay – Toryglen Thistle
Goal, assist, threat from the first whistle. “You make something happen in the first ten minutes — half the job’s done.”
CM – Lewis Barr – Remo FC
Ran the game, scored, and drove the comeback. “Every team needs one who just refuses to lose.”
CM – Seoras – Burnhill FC
Played out of position and still bossed it. “Football brain, doesn’t hide, does the dirty and the tidy.”
LM – Mo Benghellab – Greater Croftpark Rose
Another screamer when it counted. “Big moments need big characters — he’s been that for weeks.”

Burnhill FC Five goals, free-kick for the scrapbook, and chaos for defenders. “Main man, end of story.”
ST – Stephen Mullen – Cambuslang FA.
Hat-trick hero, ruthless in front of goal. “Clinical, no fuss, no chat — just finishes.”
🔁 Bench
Graeme Milne (Rossvale Huntershill) – shoot-out hero
Kyle Cameron (Knightswood) – quiet destroyer at full-back
Ali Naysmith (Lokomotiv) – hat-trick of assists, playmaker’s brain
Ethan Furze (Bishopton) – two goals and pure graft

Well, if there’s one manager who needs a trophy cabinet just for match balls, it’s the gaffer down at Rhu. His side didn’t just beat fellow Championship team Woodbank in the West of Scotland Cup—they gave them an absolute footballing lesson, running out 5-1 winners at Ardenconnell Park.

Woodbank arrived hoping for a tight cup tie. They left needing a GPS to find their way home, possibly having experienced a collective case of whiplash from watching the ball hit the back of their net five times. When the final whistle blew, the scoreline looked less like a football result and more like the answer to an existential question Rhu was asking of their opponents.
Let’s be clear: this wasn’t a fluke. five goals against a team at your own level speaks to a level of preparation—or perhaps, some highly effective psychological warfare—that deserves serious credit.
The manager has clearly worked wonders. He’s got the team firing on all cylinders, demonstrating that when Rhu turns up, the opposition is simply there to make the goalscorers look good.

“You can keep your fancy stats — these lads made things happen. Goals, graft, and guts. The rest will just have to chew on it.”
Thanks to the clubs who sent detailed nominations — they make this sharper every week and build on Hugh’s touchline viewings. Keep them coming, with context, so we can spotlight the shifts that swung points
