Greater Croftpark Rose and DTI AFC paid tribute to Sean Jones prior to their clash at Firhill Complex on Saturday after the goalkeeper sadly passed away a week ago.

The former DTI AFC ’ shot stopper enjoyed a long spell with the club, establishing himself as a regular name on the teamsheet. A consistent performer, Jones also featured at Croftpark on several occasions during 2024.

Ahead of the GCR clash against DTI AFC, both sets of players and management teams held a minute’s silence in his memory as well as wearing black armbands for the former shot stopper.

Before the referee’s whistle, the pitch went quiet . For sixty seconds, players and coaches, from both clubs stood shoulder to shoulder, united in respect for Sean a much-loved goalkeeper whose passion for the game was there for everyone to see.

What made the moment even more powerful was the unity shown by Sean’s two former clubs. Though rivals in competition, they stood together in respect—reminding us all that football is more than just a game. It is a family, bound by shared love for the sport and for those who play it.

For those who knew Sean, the tribute was deeply personal. He was not just a goalkeeper; he was a friend, a teammate, and a figure of inspiration. For those who did not, the silence was a way to acknowledge the weight of his loss and the impact he had on those around him.

Sean Jones would have been extremely proud of his former Club DTI AFC who put on a spirited showing in the midst of an extremely difficult season for the club.

Many of Sean’s former teammates came together to pay their respects to their friend, with some even pulling on the DTI jersey once again to take part in the match.

The Goalkeeper was held in such high esteem throughout the Glasgow amateur football scene with many clubs speaking out to pay their respects to Sean.

Sean Jones will be remembered not only for his performances between the posts but also for the spirit, passion, and kindness he brought to the game. Saturday’s tribute showed that his legacy will live on—not just in the clubs he played for, but in the hearts of everyone who stood in silence to honor him.
