Few expected this headline in October. Just months after celebrating an Ultimate Treble season, Steins Thistle Amateurs have confirmed they will suspend all remaining fixtures for the 2025–26 campaign.
In a statement shared by the club on social media, the tone was one of disbelief and disappointment:
Club Statement
“It is with a heavy heart and utter disbelief that Steins Thistle Amateurs are having to suspend all our remaining games for the remainder of Season 2025–2026!
Sadly, due to an accumulation of holidays, injuries, working away from home and players & Management team moving on — all which festered in the first few weeks of the season, coupled with 3 free weekends due to falling teams in the League, the Ultimate Treble winning side from last season has been decimated.
The remaining Committee Members are hoping to start afresh again next season with a new Manager, while helping out with all the remaining Youth Teams at the Dale this season.
So, going forward, new beginning and new team hopefully for Season 2026–2027.
Huge thank you to all our Sponsors and supporters and hopefully good news soon…..”
It’s a sobering reminder of how fragile even the most successful amateur setups can be. The grind of balancing work, travel, and football commitments has claimed another proud Glasgow side — one that only months ago stood at the very top of the amateur game.
As the statement notes, the decision wasn’t rushed, with committee members exploring every option before calling time on this campaign. The focus now shifts to rebuilding, both in structure and in spirit, for a fresh start in 2026–27.
For the club, its sponsors, and the wider Scottish amateur scene, it’s a hard moment — but one that underlines the resilience needed to keep football alive at this level.
Frank Sideline’s Take
You can win trebles, fill trophy cabinets, and still find yourself struggling for a squad come autumn. That’s the reality of this level — no safety nets, just people doing their best to keep the badge alive. Here’s hoping Steins Thistle Amateurs rise again.
