You don’t often see nine goals, three penalties and a late turnaround all in one match — but Woodlands v Glasgow Diverse delivered the lot. A rollercoaster Sunday in the Championship saw Diverse keep their title push alive with a 5–4 win, showing once again why they’re one of the most resilient sides in the league.

Congratulations on the win — what was the first thing that went through your head after the final whistle?
Relief! Thought it would have been a tough one to take if the lads dropped points in the game.
What was the game plan going in, and how well do you think the lads stuck to it?
Game plan was just to try and keep things simple, move the ball quickly from defence to attack and be clinical when in front of goal.

Whats impressed me the most is their attitude and mindset in many of the games. Outcomes of a game can change so quickly so it’s important they maintain their focus and never give up as this will be crucial in a title race.

Amateur football has its challenges — how proud are you of the commitment shown by the players today?
Great! Commitment is a big issue in amateur football these days and be able to have a full squad on Match Day plays an essential part towards a positive result in the game.

What was your message to the team in the dressing room after such a big win at the top of the table?
Great attitude, and fight to keep going despite conceding 3 penalties and the opposition also taking the lead late on. Staying positive and playing to the final whistle is important and today was an example of that as we came out victorious.
Ahmed’s first emotion after the whistle? “Relief,” he admitted. “It would’ve been a tough one to take if the lads dropped points.”
The plan was simple — move the ball fast, stay clinical, and keep focus under pressure. That clarity paid off, even with setbacks. “We conceded three penalties and still found a way to win,” said Ahmed. “The attitude and mindset of this group have impressed me all season. Things change quickly in football, so we can never give up.”
Commitment’s another part of the story. “Having a full squad on matchday makes a huge difference,” Ahmed added. “At this level that’s half the battle.”
By full-time, their spirit had carried them through another chaotic Championship encounter — one that could easily have gone the other way.

Whatever happens next in this title race, Diverse’s comeback in this nine-goal thriller shows they’ve got the bottle for it.
