We announce GCFA PREMIER DIVISION PLAYER OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER
September was a good month for Glasgow Island and our winner announced today played a big part in their team improving their position within GCFA Premier league and progressing in the cup competitions.

An excellent September personally means attacker Zander MacNeil walks away with the Premier Division Player of the Month award.

Zander is a top quality attacker who leads his team by example on the park. The winger never hides and always demands the ball to try and make things happen for his club.
Zander has been amongst the goals throughout September and most importantly helping his team climb up the Premier League table.
Five goals and a tremendous month of football from Andy rightly see’s him deservedly pick up the GCFA Premier League Player of the Month.

Zander is well known to defences in the league, having been around since 2016. He used to be known as ‘the wee guy with the headband’ and he was a huge talent who could play on either wing.
Zander’s hair remained bountiful, but a job that saw him frequently miss games at the last minute as well as spend hours on end driving began to catch up with him and I don’t think it is controversial to say the massive threat he posed was blunted, somewhat. Yes, he could still pull a blinder out of the bag, but these got rarer and Zander is a player who thrives on confidence.

A change in job to a much more physical one as well as a real determination to reverse the decline has seen a super fit and lean Zander find his form again. Enjoying a new ‘free’ role off the strikers and running from deep has seen him score 5 goals in 5 games, with a brace in the Scottish Cup v Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers delivering two magnificent strikes followed by a hat trick v Clydebank.
If Zander can keep up this level of performance it won’t just be Player of the Month he will be getting tipped for.

THE GAFFER
We caught up with his gaffer Murdo Graham who said.
I’m absolutely delighted for him. He’s been outstanding, not just with the goals but with his overall contribution to the team. He’s leading the line with real intelligence, pressing from the front, linking play, and of course taking his chances brilliantly.
These individual awards are always nice recognition, but I think he’d be the first to say it’s down to the whole squad working together. Still, for him personally, it’s a reward for the hard work he’s been putting in.

From blistering pace to ruthless finishing, September showed us exactly what the Premier Division is all about — quality on the pitch and passion behind the badge. If this is the marker for the season ahead, then Glasgow Island fans are in for a treat.
Congratulations to our Player of the Month winner — a name that’s now etched into Footy Focus history.
