The world of amateur football has been shaken by the heartbreaking news of the passing of Sean Jones.
Sean wasn’t just known for his saves on the pitch — he was known for his kindness, humour, and genuine warmth off it. His loss has left a deep mark across the GCFA, GDSFC, and SPAFA communities.

A Goalkeeper, a Teammate, a Friend
Sean was more than just a footballer; he was, first and foremost, a son and a partner, a genuinely good guy who brightened the lives of those around him.
On the pitch, he was an excellent goalkeeper and a respected presence across several teams who played within the GCFA and the GDSFC.
Footy Focus, the GCFA, the GDSFC, and SPAFA would like to remember Sean’s dedication and talent.
• He was a committed shot-stopper who played for DTI AFC in the Saturday morning league set-up.
• He tasted success with his beloved Glasgow Irish football team.
• Most recently, Sean was a valuable member of East End Phoenix AFC and Westerlands AFC. He played a significant role in helping East End Phoenix progress in a recent national cup competition, demonstrating his ongoing passion and skill.
News like this is an extremely hard story to put into words, as the loss is so immense. The outpouring of grief and warm memories from clubs like DTI AFC, Glasgow Irish and Westerlands AFC underscores just how highly regarded Sean was.
