A fine morning for football, last night’s weather having thoughtfully departed, and with two excellent teams on the park the result was a cracking game at Scotstoun.

PSP’s towering forward has a good touch for a big man, and caused problems throughout with his powerful running. An early chance for PSP, who came into the clash sitting pretty at the top of the table, was headed over the bar, before a fizzing drive from from Anton was tipped over after a slaloming run from Robin.

The opener came on 15 minutes, Robin rising high to power home a dipping free kick from Drew. 1-0 Islands !!!!

It looked likely that the islanders would extend their lead with a flurry of three close calls – a shot from Anton clipping the outside of the post, the PSP keeper doing well to save from Zander, and Calum having a header cleared off the line from the resulting corner

A sting in the tail came for Islands came in the form of an equaliser from PSP after a scruffy shot from the edge of the GI box through a forest of legs. 1-1 !!!!

Worse was to follow when the ref awarded a penalty to PSP for a trip on their striker, having missed him fouling the defender seconds before. The number 9 dusted himself off and converted with aplomb. 2-1 PSP !!!!

Robin almost equalised with a fiery drive which missed by a whisker, but half time came with PSP still one up.

Into the second 45 and, from my vantage point, it looked as though the ref missed a clear penalty after Robin was fouled. Moments later, though, he awarded the islanders a penalty after Daniel was tripped – if I’m being honest I thought he got both decisions wrong but the outcome was fair, an equaliser from the spot after Robin sent the keeper the wrong way. 2-2 !!!!!

The next goal was going to be crucial, and shortly after a Robin Harvey cannonball hit the post, Finlay rose highest to win a header and the ball slowly spun into the back of the net. 3-2 Glasgow Islands !!!

Jack then made a couple of crucial saves to preserve the GI lead before the unfortunate Calum saw a strong header ricochet off the PSP crossbar.

There then came the most sumptuous goal – Daniel racing to the front post to slide home a gorgeous centre from Anton – to extend the islanders lead. 4-2 Glasgow Islands !!!

Such was the effort put in by the swarming GI forwards, you’d have forgiven the PSP defence from thinking Storm Amy was still in full flow, with a torrent of chances being created. The fifth goal duly came, and it was a belter, Robin picking the ball up 30+ years out and completing his hat trick with a stunning drive into the top corner. 5-2 Glasgow Islands !!!!

PSP didn’t play badly by any means and will be a handful for most teams, but on this day they just couldn’t stop the Glasgow Island whirlwind.

Final score: Glasgow Island 5-2 PSP
