Game got up with : Motherwell Villa — West Cup

We’re launching a brand-new feature this season — catching up with every GDSFC club as our roving reporter makes the journey around the league. First up, it’s Glasgow Villa, who invited us along last week and gave us a real insight into life as a new side finding their feet. Manager Lloyd Ruby and captain Alistair kindly shared their early experiences of building a team, competing in the cups, and setting targets for the league campaign ahead.

✍️ Name: Lloyd ruby.

How hard has it been starting up a new team, competing in the GDSFC, and getting out on the pitch this season?

Well we started up in April had about 6 training sessions a few pals and took it from there not gony lie it hasn’t been easy especially trying to get sponsors for strips and players but after a pal who owns cass access scaffolding said he would get us our first strips the ball kicked on from there had about 16 pre season games but to play competitive football now on a Sunday is brilliant

Even though today’s result didn’t go your way, what positives are you taking from the performance?

Our goalkeeper Marcus Mullen kept the score down which is a positive other than that can’t comment much about it

Was there a moment today that showed what your team is about — character, fight, or

Today we didn’t show much to be totally truthful the players know that them self’s. The first 20 min we could have been 0-3 up we looked hungry then when the first goal went in for Motherwell Villa just felt the mood drop within the team but I know my boys they will bounce back big time from it

Looking ahead, what are your hopes for the rest of the season as you continue building the club?

Now we are out the west lets us concentrate on the leauge now. we haven’t had the best of starts to our Leauge campaign would like a top 3 finish in our first season get a settled starting 11 with just as strong bench and build on it from there maybe get some more coaches on board some different ideas to bring to the team

What’s it been like joining a brand new team in the GDSFC this season?

Yeah it’s been good and looking forward to the challenge coming into a competitive league with a new team and seeing how we get on

Even though today’s result didn’t go your way, what positives are you taking from your own performance or the team’s?

Wasn’t actually playing in today’s match but watching the team in probably one of our worst matches so far was a hard one to take but the only positives to take is we can now concentrate on the league now

Looking ahead, what do you hope the squad can achieve together this season?

I do feel we have a great squad here and are more than capable of challenging for the league this season will be all about finding our feet and try be in the mix at the end of the season

That’s the first stop in our new series shining a light on fresh faces across the GDSFC. Big thanks again to Lloyd and Alistair for taking the time after a tough afternoon. Keep an eye out as we continue the journey — our aim is to catch every club this season, win, lose, or draw.
