PSP advanced in the West of Scotland Cup with a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Strathclyde Uni, recovering from an early setback to secure the win and send themselves through to the next round of the competition.

The game began at a steady tempo, both sides feeling their way into the contest. Strathclyde struck first on 14 minutes when a misplaced pass in the PSP defence was punished with a slick one-two before the home forward calmly rolled the ball into the net. 1-0 Stathclyde !!!

The goal appeared to spark PSP into life, and they responded almost immediately. Gal went close with a low effort across the face of goal, while Dec and Chrissie both tested the goalkeeper as pressure began to mount.

Their persistence was rewarded on the half-hour mark. A throw from Gorlach found Ali, who clipped a lobbed cross into the six-yard box. The goalkeeper could only parry under pressure from Gal, allowing Dec to race in and head home the equaliser. 1-1 !!!!!!

Two minutes later PSP completed the turnaround. A sweeping move involving Gal, Chrissie and Dec carved open the Strathclyde defence, with Dec finishing clinically to make it 2–1 to the visitors. 2-1 Psp !!!!!

Chances continued to fall for Park Sports Project before the halft time break, with Chrissie Shields twice going close as the away side pushed for a third goal that would surely clinch the match.

The visitors maintained their dominance after the restart of play and it looked from a neutral point of view that there would only be one winner in this encounter.

Vlad and Gal both forced excellent saves from the Strathclyde goalkeeper, while Ali’s deliveries from the right hand side caused constant problems for the opposition left back.

The second half breakthrough came in the 68th minute when Vlad capitalised on a handling error by the Strathclyde keeper, sliding the ball into an empty net for PSP’s third goal of the game.

Strathclyde rallied late on and were rewarded in the 89th minute with a superb 25-yard strike that flew into the corner to set up a tense finish. However, PSP held firm to claim a deserved 3–2 win and progression in the competition.

FINAL THOUGHTS

PSP’s resilience after going behind proved decisive, with their attacking fluency and relentless pressure ultimately being too much for the home side to handle.

late strike for Strathclyde definitely ensured a nervous finale, but it was the visitors who left with momentum and a place in the next round.
