The Sunday District Cup returns this weekend, and few ties stand out more than Maryhill Milan against Todholm at High Park, Lennoxtown. Two sides who rarely disappoint are set to go at it again.

The tie has all the ingredients of a classic. Both sides come into the fixture desperate for victory, with recent meetings between the two sparking a fierce rivalry that has only grown in recent months

It’s knockout football — someone goes through, someone goes home. Simple as that

It’s one that feels like it could go either way — and that’s exactly what a first-round cup tie should be

THE CLUBS

Maryhill Milan and Todholm know each other well from the GDSFC Premiership, where they’ve both been pushing hard at the top end of the table. Milan have built a reputation for going forward in numbers, while Todholm’s strength comes from organisation and a habit of making games physical.

It’s not just another league meeting either — there’s a bit of edge to this fixture now. Recent contests have thrown up goals, drama, and more than a few talking points, which is why this Cup tie already feels like more than just Round One.

HEAD TO HEAD HIGH PROFILE ENCOUNTER

The last time these two sides met in the West District Cup was the semi-final on 13 April 2025. It finished 4–4 after extra time, with Maryhill Milan advancing on penalties. Milan went on to lift the trophy.

That result underlined one thing: when these teams meet, goals tend to follow.

MEETINGS THIS SEASON

These two have already served up chaos in the league. Back on 10 August, Todholm edged a 6–4 win in a ten-goal Premiership thriller.

Both sides showed what they’re about that day — Todholm ruthless in front of goal, Milan relentless in chasing the game.

LAST MATCHES

Both teams had significant matches last weekend, so the clubs will be going into this massive matchup not only fit but also fully prepared and ready to go.

Last weekend Milan put 11 past Polonia in a wild Premiership win. They sit mid-table, scoring freely but still searching for consistency.

Todholm saw off Fairhill 3–0 to stay in the top four. A clean sheet underlined the balance they’ve found between attack and defence.

BIG PLAYERS

Ryan Officer has been Todholm’s main source of goals this season. He already has multiple hat-tricks to his name and was central in their 6–4 win over Milan in August, hitting three that day. If he gets space in the box, he usually makes it count.

Paul Donnelly is more than just a player for Maryhill Milan; he’s the team’s relentless engine. His supreme fitness allows him to cover every blade of grass, putting in a shift from the first whistle to the last. This tireless work rate, however, is not at the expense of his attacking threat. With a natural and almost predatory eye for goal, Donnelly consistently finds himself in the right place at the right time, turning defensive effort into decisive moments.

The striker was also man of the match in last season’s Sunday District Cup Final.

Maryhills Milan strut in with the trophy polish still fresh, calling themselves cup holders like it’s a birthright. Fair play — they earned it last season. But cups don’t defend themselves, and every side they meet is desperate to knock them off their perch.

Todholm? They’ve circled this one in red. Nothing would please them more than bursting Milan’s bubble and reminding everyone that reputations don’t win ties — players do. Big names, bigger egos, and no place to hide at High Park.

And don’t worry, I’ll be there to judge who’s the real deal — and who’s just talking a good game.
