Cathcart Secures Thrilling Victory Over Banknock AFC in Kilsyth

Frustration fuels today’s showdown. Both Cathcart and Banknock came agonisingly close to the Boca Championship, only to see the door slam shut at the final hurdle. Now, with fresh squads, fierce ambition, and eyes locked on redemption, neither side can afford to blink. Expect sparks, expect intensity—today’s clash has all the makings of a classic

Cathcart AFC emerged victorious in a high-scoring and dramatic encounter against Banknock AFC in an away day match that saw a rollercoaster of emotions. The final score was 5-3, but the game was a tale of two halves, with Cathcart dominating early and holding on for a hard-fought win.

From the first whistle, Cathcart was in command, comfortably controlling the ball and limiting Banknock’s opportunities. The opening goal came around the 20-minute mark from a free-kick by Ryan Dickson. Although his initial shot was saved, Kaiden Graham was quick to react, slotting home the rebound to put Cathcart up 1-0.

The floodgates opened soon after. A free-kick by Adam Williamson was played into the box, where it found Ryan Dickson, who outmuscled his marker and headed the ball. Williamson was there to knock the ball over the line, doubling Cathcart’s lead to 2-0.

The momentum continued with some excellent play on the left flank. A brilliant run by Jono created an opportunity for Kaiden Graham, who got in front of his defender and clinically finished into the bottom corner, giving him his second goal of the match and extending the lead to 3-0. The score remained 3-0 at halftime, and Cathcart appeared to be in complete control.

The second half was a stark contrast to the first. Cathcart came out complacent and sloppy, allowing Banknock back into the game. Banknock capitalized on this shift in play, scoring two quick goals in a seven-minute span to bring the score to a tense 3-2.

However, Cathcart managed to regain their composure and push forward. The fourth goal came from Ryan Dickson, who created chaos in the Banknock box. After the goalkeeper spilled his initial shot, Dickson was on hand to put the ball in the net, making it 4-2.

The fifth and final goal for Cathcart was arguably the best of the game. James McIntyre took on a number of defenders, leaving them on the floor with his dazzling dribbling, before coolly slotting the ball into the bottom corner to make it 5-2.

Banknock managed to grab a consolation goal, bringing the score to 5-3, but it was too little, too late. The final whistle blew on a thrilling 5-3 victory for Cathcart.
