Tonight Queens Park SFC and Netherton AFC meet in the GCFA Championship play-off, with a place in the Boca Championship on the line. In charge of the contest is referee Robert Strachan, who gave us a few words ahead of kick-off.

Big occasion tonight — what’s your mindset heading into a Championship play-off?

It’s a big occasion for both teams and I’m expecting an intense and exciting match

When the stakes are high and a league place is on the line, does that change how you prepare?

I approach every game with a positive and clear headed approach and I’ll treat this no different.

What will you be looking for in the first 10 minutes to help set the tone?

Opening moments of a match are always fast paced and adrenaline fuelled, so good communication with players and captains can help ease the tension.

Robert in action.
Spectators, players, pressure — what’s the toughest part of managing a game like this?
Probably staying mentally focused, unlike players, referees don’t get a chance to switch off, as one lapse of concentration can define a match.

And finally… what’s the one thing you hope people say about your performance afterwards?

I would be happy if the game flowed, the big decisions are correct and the focus stayed on the players and football….not on the referee

Compliments are still welcome though lol

Referee Robert Strachan’s performance will be key as Queens Park SFC and Netherton AFC battle it out for a GCFA Championship place. We thank him for sharing his thoughts ahead of kick-off, and wish both teams and officials the best of luck for tonight’s play-off.
