GDSFC CHAMPIONSHIP

These post-match reflections give referees the chance to share their perspective on the game, highlightin g their value to grassroots football.

What was the most enjoyable part of this match for you today ?

It’s always just being part of it all for me . We are all football crazy in this country.

Was there a moment -a goal , a challenge , or even a bit of sportsmanship- that , for you captured the sprit of the Scottish amateur game today

For me it was Kelbourne opening goal from no 7 . I was right behind the player when he struck it , and I seen the ball move a bit left to right then dipped right at the end to go into the net . Then the emotion from the goal scorer brilliant.

Any standout bit of skill , character, or respect from players that you think deserves a mention .
Players and coaches all well behaved in a roaster of a day .

How would you describe the overall feel of the match – fiery, respectful. end -to – end , or something else ?

The two teams last season were only separated with goal difference at the end of last season for the title so it was a bit like a local derby match . The match itself was relentless even in the roasting temperature.

Overall , how do you look back on this game from the referee’s perspective ?

Performance wise in general from myself I thought I did ok . Tried to play advantage when I could let the match flow . But Like most refs I’m my biggest critic , played advantage at one play in match and it backfired . And I got pelters , comes with the job . Great match just to be part off .

Thanks again to this week’s referees for sharing their views for this new feature . One thing we learned from last season is that not everyone across the GDSFC knew about our coverage — and that’s on us, as we used the year to shape what Footy Fo cus was going to be. This season we’ll be working harder to raise awareness of all our features, from Referee Corner to special features, so more people can follow along and get involved.
