Seven goals including one very late winner brought joy and despair into this match but who would have the joy and who would have the despair.

The Bookies had this match as a very tight contest and no real pre match favourite going into kick off.

MATCH REPORT

Drumchapel travelled through to Preisthill to face Hillwood FC who have had a good start to the season.

The first few minutes of the match was a bit of a feeling out process with both clubs trying to get on the ball and be the dominant team.

Drumchapel almost had the opportunity to take the lead when a potential penalty kick for handball was turned down by the match official.

The away side took the lead after five minutes when a chipped ball over the top found striker Sean Halligan, The target man took a good first touch and powered his shot into the back of the net. 1-0 Drumchapel !!!!

Hillwood tried to get back into the match and a long throw in let number 9 having a snap shot which finished just wide of post.

The home side decided to attack down the left hand side and McGill the Hillwood attacker found space to have another shot which ended up just over the crossbar.

McGill of Hillwood would not be denied for long, Ibra produced a great flick to McGill, the striker then ran past 3 players and fired a low shot into bottom corner of the net. 1-1 !!!!!!

Hillwood were certainly the team on top and a great touch on the edge of box by McAloon ended with him hitting his shot just wide of the post.

The home team were really on top and a corner kick from the right hand side ended with free header at back post which hillwood should really have scored.

Drumchapel then had a great chance to go in front after a poor kick by the hillwood keeper, Midfield man Marty then had a 45 yard effort which finished just wide of the post.

Another chance for the home team when a ball over the top found McGill who ran in on goal, he squared the ball to the back post but the Drumchapel defender made a magnificent clearance.

Drumchapel then missed a sitter when some good play by halligan found the wide man who crossed to the back post and the on coming attacker missed from 4 yards out.

Halligan of Drumchapel was causing all sorts of problems and another long ball to Halligan saw him do a 1-2 with his teammate and after receiving the ball halligan smashed another shot into the back of the net. 2-1 Drumchapel !!!!!

The home side had the last chance of the half after a long diagonal cross found McGill free and with time to pick his spot his header was easily saved by the keeper.

Hillwood got a bit of a rollicking from their manager as they came out for the 2nd half with a new found determination.

The home side were beginning to go direct and McGill and Higgins were starting to cause the opposition some problems

Hillwood had another half chance and a long range shot from their number 11 produced a great save from the drum keeper.

Almost an identical situation to minutes before when another long shot was well saved the Drumchapel number one.

Hillwood did pull one back when a clever ball in behind found McGill who’s shot was well saved but Ibra was their for the tap in. 2-2 !!

Sean Higgins was beginning to influence the game and some good play by him saw a quality pass through to substitute Cunningham who should have done better with his scuffed shot.

The Drum had a chance of their own when a shot from edge of the box produced a cracking save from Brad in the Hillwood goal.

McGill of Hillwood was having a fine game and some excellent work at the by line and a good cross found McNair free at the back post for a tap in. 3-2 Hillwood !!!!!

McAloon of Hillwood was next to try his luck when his long distance shot cannoned off the woodwork.

Hillwood were really on the front foot, McAloon slipped ball to McGill who should have scored but fired wide of the post.

Drumchapel were not done yet and their winger found time to cut in side beating his man with ease before hitting his shot just off the outside of post.

Hillwood were desperate to go further ahead and more great play by the attackers led to Higgins playing a 1-2 with McGill and Higgins beat the keeper with a powerful finish. 4-2 Hillwood !!!!!

The home side almost clinched the game when a corner kick found Cunningham but his header cannoned off the crossbar and bounced away to saftey.

Drumchapel did pull one back when their striker Halligan produced a great through ball, Stuart the Drum winger cut inside and fired home at the near post. 4-3 !!!!!!!

The referee blew the full time whistle seconds later and signalled the end of a thrilling match,

This game was a great advert for football within the GDSFC. seven goals and 90 minutes of end to end football that was a joy to watch on this Sunday afternoon.
