Nine goal thriller as Pollokshields come out on top.

League opening weekend

The game came to us from a grey cloudy Greenfield Astro in Shettleston with the home team Polonia in black and the away team Pollokshields in Green
The first fifteen minutes or so were very evenly contested with neither team taking control of the match.

The away team tried to get back into the match with a series of corner kicks but the Polonia defence stood up well to the onslaught.
Minutes before half time a moment of magic from Makik sent Hastie in on goal and the striker smashed the ball home off the post from a very tight angle.
A few moments later the referee brought the half to an end with their being no indication of what would be in store for us in the second half.

The away team came out the traps flying and it was that man Malik again who was causing the opposition some bother and his pass again to Hastie saw the attacker beat the keeper with a cool finish. 2-1 Shields !!!!
Pollokshields went further ahead when Hastie got wide and crossed for Chris to tap home from close range. 3-1 Shields !!!!

A chipped ball info the box caight out the away team and a foul in the box by the Pollokshields captain ended with their being ref pointing to the spot.
The polonia player produced a well taken penalty kick and pulled one goal back for his team, 3 – 2 !!!!!!!
The home team threatened again and after a nice passage of play the ball was slipped to the edge of the box and the Midfielder thundered a shot off the crossbar.

it was time for Shields to threaten again and wide boy Grant was brought down in the box after some nice skills in the box.
Man of the Moment Hastie stepped up on his hat trick and fired the penalty kick high over the bar.
Another chance for Pollokshields as wide man Grant beat his man before crossing for Hastie to fire just wide of the post.
Polonia equalised when a mix up in the Shields defence saw their striker round the keeper and tap home from close range. 3-3 !!!
What a game this was and we still had twenty odd minutes to go, both teams going all out to score and none of this constant passing about the back which seems to be popular right now.
Potential man of the match Steven Hastie was a real thorn in the side of Polonia and his shot from the edge of the box brought out a stunning save from the Polonia number one.

The game was end to end at this point and both teams were going for it but Pollokshields were to get their noses in front when Hastie squared the ball to Taz who beat the keeper with a neaf finish. 4-3 Pollokshields !!!!

Pollokshields thought they had the game sewn up when around 80 minutes a loose ball 40 yards from goal was smashed into the roof of the net by new signings Taylor. What a strike !!! 5-3 Pollokshields!!!!

Polonia pulled one back with minutes remaining and a short corner was fired home from close range to make the final few minutes interesting.
The homes side did have a last and final chance when a lovely floated cross gave their striker a chance to get a header in on goal but Rankin was there to make the save.
Referee David Maguire then blew the final whistle and brought this pulsating game to its climax. What a game this was !!!!!!!

The Pollokshiels Attacker had a fantastic game and was just a constant threat down the Pollokshields right hand side.

THOUGHTS FROM POLONIA

🇵🇱Defeat at the start of the season
After a match full of drama and twists, we lose 4:5 to Pollokshields United. We created many situations to win this game, but it failed to be effective and we committed too many mistakes defensively.
The team fought until the end – we showed character by returning to the game after losing goals and leading to a draw. This game has shown that anyone can win against anyone this season. In order to score points, we need to be more effective offense and defensively focused.
Keep your heads in the air! We learn from our mistakes, and in a week there is a chance for a rematch in another league match.
Viva Polonia – fighting on! ⚽️
🏴 Tough start to the season
A dramatic game ends in a 4–5 loss to Pollokshields. We created plenty of chances but lacked finishing and made too many mistakes at the back.
Heads up – we showed character, and next week we go again!
Viva Polonia! ⚽️

THOUGHTS FROM POLLOKSHIELDS

Was always going to be a test with pretty much full new team. We had 10 of 15 match day squad all new this season.
I think we played some good football, first half they hit us on break scored with only real chance.
But we created decent chances looked threatening going forward
Got equaliser great strike!!
Second half deserved lead then penalty mos and another chance missed bad game would’ve been done and loss more. But nervousness crept in and pen to them made us look lost.
But then two good goals and bit nervous last two mins.
Overall delighted with 3 points and win on first game of season. Lots of positives to take away

Most likely the final game of the opening day of the GDSFC Sunday and arguably the best game of the day.
A nine goal thriller which saw both teams leading, penalties scored, penalties missed and some all round good football was just a fantastic way to end a sunday.
Your Roving Reporter would highly recommend watching either of these two teams when they are next in action.
