Two years ago we welcomed five new teams into the Glasgow Colleges Football Association.

All five of those clubs started the 2023/24 season and two of those clubs never made it past halloween.

Afc Clyde folded before a ball was even kicked after the club had a shocking pre season.

Within weeks Greenock Kirkmount decided to fold after a couple of crushing early season defeats.

SURVIVING CLUBS

BUSBY AFC

Last season was a season of joy and frustration for the team from the southside of Glasgow, A fantastic league finish which saw them just miss out on promotion by the odd point which was a great achievement.

Joy leads quickly to frustration as one more win would have ensured Busby were the team being promoted to the GCFA Premier League.

Either way the past two seasons have shown that Busby are on an upward trajectory and they look to be one of the pre season favourites for promotion.

CLYDEBANK RED STAR

A top half finish in the Boca Championship and a Jim Harvey Cup Final place was the hallmarks of a very successful first season

Clydebank would go on to eclipse that fantastic first season but earning promotion to the Premier League by beating DTI AFC in the Play offs.

The Clydebank gaffer will be hoping that he and his management team can lead the club to Another successful season by staying in the Premier League.

WOODBANK FC

Two seasons in the GCFA and two bottom half of the Boca Championship finishes for Woodbank. In truth the league finishes probably don’t tell the full story about Woodbank and their time in the GCFA.

Woodbank Die hard Andy McCallion has played a big part into turning Woodbank into a right good club who many players would like to join.

The Woodbank boss has slowly been turning the screw and developing his squad with him now arguably having his strongest squad to date.

Andy and his squad will be hoping that this new season can be the clubs best season so far.

SUMMARY

The Summer of 2023 saw three big clubs join the Glasgow Colleges Football Association.

All three clubs have shown that they are the type of team who are absolutely crucial to the GCFA and its development.

Let’s hope Busby, Red Star and Woodbank can all keep improving and add another great season to their ever growing resumes8.
