We review what went down in the Clydebank Red Star Invitational tournament which took place at John Browns grass football parks

The two groups were really evenly contested with one team from each section exiting the competition just before the Semi Final stage

Greater Croftpark Rose and Woodbank FC were the teams who lost out on making it to the semi final stage.


The opening six group games of the competition provided plenty of excitement including wonder goals, injuries, sending offs and lovely football.
All six teams who played in the group stages can be proud of their performances in the opening stages of the tournament.

SEMI FINALS
CAMBUSLANG FA V CLYDEBANK RED STAR


Joint tournament favourites clydebank Red Star got themselves into the final with a victory over Cambuslang.
Red Star had to come back from being a goal down when a wonder strike from the half way line caught them cold.
The Red Star keeper also saved a penalty kick which could have helped Camby into the final.
The home team’s strikers came up trumps and two late goals ensured the host team made the final of this prestigious pre season tournament.

WESTHILL UNITED V BUSBY AFC


The Surprise package of the tournament Westhill United produced another stunning display with a 3-2 victory over one of the tournament favourites Busby AFC.
This was a cracking game of football to watch with both teams going all out to make sure they got themselves into the final.

The two form of the tournament clashed in what was arguably the final that everyone wanted to see.
Westhill had came into the tournament on the back of some shaky pre season form losing to Greater Croftpark Rose on Saturday and losing a mid week fixture to Todays cup final opponent Clydebank Red Star.
Westhill manager Conner Moffat is someone you can never count out and today him and his team brought their A game to this prestigious tournament.
Recently married Clydebank Red Star gaffer Scott Pollock was hoping that his team could pick up their first silverware of the season.
The Red Star boss has turned his Clydebank Red Star team into a Premier League team in under two seasons
The Cup Final itself was a showcase event with two teams going all out to win and take that prestigious trophy home 👀


Westhill took an early lead with a goal of the season contender when a long ball was headed into the path of the onrushing striker who beat the keeper with a tidy finish.
The game was fairly even until five mins to go when Red Star scored a well taken goal which left the opposition shocked.
Minutes later Red Star went ahead after a tired looking challenge from the Westhill midfielder resulted in a penalty to Red Star
The penalty was well dispatched into the corner and Red Star were delighted to be ahead in the match with minutes remaining.
Player of the tournament Kyle MacDonald then stepped up with a late equaliser when he ran onto a long ball and beat the keeper with a great finish. 2-2 !!!!!!!
With the scores level the referee Stevie Craven blew the full time whistle and the match went to penalties.
