Name – Joe Noon
Age – 51
Clubs & roles within league?
Busby afc, comet assistant and league match secretary
Can you start by telling us a bit about your role as league secretary and how long you’ve been involved?
I’ve been involved with the Gadyfl for the past few years then got involved with the spafl starting the under 19s and 21s this year was busy as took on the league match secretary of the Glasgow colleges league.

This session has been mad busy but really enjoyed it teams both in the Premiership and championship have been great and so easy to work with.
Have there been any logistical challenges leading up to the end of season fixtures & cup finals (fixture congestion & venues, etc.)?
At this time of the year it’s always hard your looking to get the league games all done but also trying to find venues for semi finals and finals really must thank Rutherglen Glencairn Juniors for the use of there venue this year and hopefully be back there next season for finals.

How important is it for an amateur leagues to have strong competitive end of season leagues & cup finals to promote your league?
💯 important we are now at the weekend of the 6th of June and with one more match to be played we still don’t know who will be in the 4th place play off it has been a really great season and long may this continue.

What are your hopes for the teams playing in this seasons Cup finals – not just in terms of winning, but the experience as a whole of playing in cup finals for team when picking venues & cup presentations etc
This season has been good for finals all teams in the finals have been brilliant and really respected each other all finals had brand new trophies this season thanks to a sponsorship deal with Bucks bars
How much time over a week do you devote to football in all your current roles since you joined league in your role?
Hahaha this has been a mad season unfortunately once I started m y own roll I had to step in to do a couple of other roles so this season has been busier than usual probably ever night has been committed to doing something.

It has got to be the welcome to the league of Toryglen Thistle first year and winning a treble first time in the GCFA this has been done.
On a personal level, what does it mean to you to see the league go from strength to strength during your short time as secretary?
Its a massive bonus on how well the league is grow hard to believe that we are going to have 3 divisions next season we are definitely growing and with the right sponsors and the right committee behind us this will be the place to play the most competitive sat football.
What are your and committee plans for league next season, what parts of structure etc do you feel are strong and where are areas for opportunities to develop?

What are your and committee plans for league next season, what parts of structure etc do you feel are strong and where are areas for opportunities to develop?
We have already welcomed our 8 new teams on board also spoke to existing clubs and planned out next season format.
14 team Premiership
12 team championship
12 team conference.
We will also have 2 divisions at under 19s.
And we will have the biggest under 21s league in the west of Scotland for a long time currently sitting at 22 teams for next season.

Is there any changes you feel could be done to improve Scottish amateur football to ensure it’s long term not just survival but to prosper.?
I think myself and the committee at the spafl seen a few years ago that there is a problem in the amateurs game and we started something then to improve it and its now coming to frustration with the teams pathway moving up 19s to 21s then 21s to either sat morning amateurs or sat afternoon amateurs.

How have you found the introduction of Comet to amateur football?
At the start of the season was hard to get all teams on board but I have to give all teams credit before Xmas we had all teams signed up all players and coaches registered and since just after Xmas we now fully use comet teamlines and we now have all our refs doing it aswell so it’s great.
